Mauve’s POV
C
“You’ll what?” Dr. Helen’s eyes almost popped out of her head. “But Mauve, you’ve come so far to reclaim the pack. Are you going to just give up the pack? It’s the only remembrance you have from your family.”
“Do you think this is easy for me?” I asked, shifting my position on the couch. “When the werewolf council returned the right to me, I was over the moon. But I will not sacrifice my pups‘ future for my own pride and power. I will not be a good alpha if I cannot protect my own babies in the first place. Like I said, I don’t want to repeat the deeds of my parents. Maybe twin girls are considered a bad omen, but I will not let that superstition dictate how I raise my children.”

Dr. Heln nodded with a sigh. She sat beside me and reached out to squeeze my trembling hands. “You’re in the right direction, Mauve. Above anything else, you must prioritize your family. Your babies are your family now. This is the moon goddess’s blessing after you lose your pregnancy in the past.”
I bit my lips as to prevent them from trembling. She was right. Maybe this wasn’t a punishment after all. This was a blessing, and I deserved one.
“By the way, are you going to inform Alpha Elias about this?”
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. The thought of Elias finding out about my pregnancy made my stomach churn. “He can’t know,” I whispered, staring at the floor as if it held the answers I needed. “Elias has done so much for me… but telling him won’t help either of us”
Dr. Helen tilted her head, her eyes searching mine with a gentle concern. “Mauve, are you sure about this? He deserves to know the truth.”
A bitter chuckle escaped my lips. “No, Helen. He needs to focus on his governance across the packs and on his mate, who’s still recovering. Knowing about my condition will only complicate things.”
Dr. Helen sighed, reaching out to squeeze my trembling hands. “You’re strong, Mauve, but you don’t have to carry this burden alone.”
I swallowed hard, the weight of the decision pressing down on me. “I have to. It’s better this way”
Dr. Helen gave me an understanding nod. “I trust your judgment. Just remember, what choice you make, it
should be for you and your babies.”
I nodded, but deep down, I couldn’t help but feel doubt. Would Elias find out eventually? Would he feel betrayed if he did? Or worse, would he come looking for me?
Later that night, as I sat by the fireplace, watching the flames dance. The pack was my birthright, but my daughters were my future. And no matter what anyone said, I knew where my heart truly lay.
A knock at the door snapped me out of my thoughts. Smoothing down my dress, I said, “Come in.”
The door creaked open, and my beta, late Marcus’s wife, stepped inside with hurried steps. Her brow was furrowed, and she wrung her hands nervously. “Alpha, the elders want to meet you tomorrow.”
“What is it about?”
She shifted in an uncomfortable manner, avoiding my gaze. “I don’t know, Alpha. But they seemed serious. Really serious.”
I felt my stomach twist. My hand instinctively rested on my abdomen. Do they know about the twins? I took a slow, steady breath and forced a nod. “Alright. Thank you. You can go.”
She hesitated for a moment, as if wanting to say more, but eventually bowed her head and left the room.
The next morning, I walked into the sacred temple, my boots echoing against the stone floor. The elders stood in a half–circle. Some of them exchanged glances, while others simply watched me in silence.
I squared my shoulders and forced a calm tone. “What’s this about?”
One of the elders sighed and squared his shoulders, saying, “Alpha Mauve, the elders have agreed that we need to have an alpha. A male one.”
“You want what?” I blinked. For some reason, their words had me offended. “Then what am I to you all? A mere fraud? I have alpha blood in my veins. So why am I not good enough?”
T
“No. Please don’t think that way,” one of the elders with cane said gently. “It’s not about your worth, but about tradition and what is best for our pack. We need a male alpha, and we will obtain that if you are going to undergo marriage.”
