Chapter 14
There was a moment of silence in the compartment before Calvin finally spoke heavily.
“In front of you and others, it may seem like I raised Shyla, but for me, it was Shyla who accompanied me for eleven years. You also know that my parents were busy with work, and my older brother, who was ten years older than me, was distant. I grew up alone since I was young, even though I never lacked material things, I was always lonely.”
“Shyla is someone I watched grow up, she has always been very attached to me since she was little, and she is so smart and adorable. After getting to know her, I became much happier. Then, such a tragic event happened, and I felt so sorry for her, so I kept her by my side. In my heart, Shyla has long been my family.”
After listening to his confession, Ariella was also moved.
“Yes, although Shyla calls you uncle, the responsibility you actually bear is that of a father. I am also aware that you are as close as family, so I haven’t disturbed you all these years. It was only a month ago when I heard that you were getting married that I contacted Shyla and asked for her opinion. At first, she was reluctant, but then she suddenly changed her mind. I thought it would be good for her to see more of the world, so I applied for a green card for her.
Calvin felt a pang of pain in his heart as he listened to the details of the situation from her mouth.
“You were Shyla’s only relative in this world, and it is natural for a family to reunite. However, she chose to immigrate to Landhall Instead of just traveling or studying abroad. Why did she choose immigration?
Ariella thought that Shyla had already talked everything out with Calvin before going abroad.
So when he suddenly heard him ask this question, a hint of surprise flashed across his face.
“It was Shyla who voluntarily mentioned about immigrating, and I applied only because I respected her idea. Didn’t you know?”
Calvin felt as if a knife had been stabbed into his chest.
He shook his head slowly, with a bitter smile at the corner of his mouth.
“She didn’t tell me.”
Ariella became more and more surprised
But Shyla was her own niece after all, so she found an excuse to defend her.
“Maybe you were busy with the wedding preparations, and she didn’t find a good opportunity. But it’s not a big deal. Nowadays, transportation is so developed, and it’s very convenient to travel back and forth. It’s easy for you to meet, so don’t worry about these
small details.”
For Ariella, these were all trivial matters.
In Calvin’s
n’s eyes,
Shyla settling in Landhall meant that she had completely escaped from the intricate web he ha
he had woven-
All of the Gutierrez family’s industries were located in the Pinefort area, and Landhall was Ariella’s territory.
In terms of emotions, reason, and reality, he had no way to take Shyla away from her.
Not to mention that Shyla was unwilling to go back with him at all.
In an instant, Calvin’s mood plummeted to the bottom, and he had no strength to speak anymore.
Ariella also felt his exhaustion and got up to bid farewell.
Before leaving, she asked one more question.
“Did you fly over here just to not see Shyla?”
After a moment of silence, Calvin finally gave his answer
та
“Please send me her new number, and I will personally contact her after I finish my work.”
After sending the number, Ariella said goodbye politely.
As the rearview mirror reflected, Calvin slumped down completely since she got in the car.
Watching the desolate figure getting further and further away, Ariella felt a strange sensation rising in her heart.
What did she think was wrong with the Gutierrez family’s son and her niece?
She hadn’t figured out exactly what was wrong yet.
