In the end, I was foolish enough to cut out two–thirds of my liver to save him.

Left at the Altar Chased by Lies
Looking back on those short years, I realize I didn’t just fall for one man.
I fell for two. And both of them destroyed me.
If my mother were still alive, she’d probably be shaking her head at me, furious, yelling, “Camille, how did I raise someone so hopelessly blinded by love?”
Just then, my phone buzzed, pulling me out of my thoughts.
I glanced at the screen.
Hayden had sent me two videos.
In the first video, Damien stood frozen, holding both the abortion records and our marriage certificate.
In the background, my confrontation with Naomi played.
“That’s right! Thanks for the liver, but I never even used it. I threw it at a stray dog! Hahaha!”
The moment those words echoed through the room, Damien’s pupils went wide. His fingers trembled as he
replayed the recording, over and over, as if trying to deny what was in front of him.
His entire body seemed to crumble under the weight of the truth. His breath was ragged, and his face drained of
all color.
“No… no way… this can’t be real…” he whispered, staring blankly at the recorder.
Hayden let out a heavy sigh, his voice thick with guilt. “Damien, Camille already knows everything. She knows
you lied to her. And you know what else? She gave up your child to save you.”
The weight of those words hit him like a punch in the gut.
“We’re monsters, Damien,” Hayden said, his voice cracking. “What we did to her… it’s like tearing her apart, piece
by piece.”
Damien’s body swayed, barely able to stay on his feet. His knuckles turned white as he gripped the recorder, his bloodshot eyes looking like a wounded animal.
“Hayden… she said we’re even now. That we’re strangers, in life and death. What do I do now? What the hell do I
do?” His voice was hoarse, desperate.
But Hayden didn’t answer. His tone was heavy with regret. “We thought we could fool her. But she must have
known all along. She’s been in so much pain.”
At those words, Damien’s legs gave out, and he collapsed onto his knees with a dull thud.
The camera wobbled slightly as Hayden stepped forward to help him up.
“Damien, we never saw it coming. Naomi… she fooled all of us. She’s the real monster here.”
Damien slowly got to his feet. There was no more confusion in his eyes–just cold, unshakable determination.
“Naomi… I need to find her. I need to hear it from her, myself.”
With that, he stumbled out the door, barely able to walk straight.
The first video ended.
Without hesitation, my phone automatically played the second video.
In the now–familiar hospital room, Damien stood in front of Naomi. His hands were gripping her shoulders tightly that she winced.
“Why did you lie to me?!” he shouted. “You were never sick!”
Naomi’s face turned white. She clutched at his sleeve, her voice trembling. “Damien, what’s wrong? What’s happening? Why are you acting like this?”
He didn’t back down. His bloodshot eyes burned into hers.
“Don’t play dumb. How long were you planning on lying to me?!”
Naomi, clearly terrified, pulled herself away, collapsing onto the floor. Damien’s fists clenched, his rage building with each second. He stepped toward her slowly. deliberately.

“It’s not true! It’s not like that, Damien!” Her voice cracked as she scrambled, looking for any way out. “I never lied
to you! Please, you have to believe me…”
Damien’s fury cut through her words like a knife. “Believe you? You still think I’m that much of an idiot?!”
His body trembled with barely contained rage. “I gave you everything. I trusted you. And you repaid me by destroying Camille.”
For a moment, Naomi’s fear shifted into something darker. Her shaking stopped, and her lips twisted into a bitter pout. She looked up at him with an expression full of grievance.
“You gave me everything?” she sneered. “Right. You promised you’d always protect me. So why? Why did you have to fall in love with Camille? Why couldn’t you just love me?”
Damien froze, his breath catching in his throat.
“That’s it?” he whispered, disbelief written all over his face. “That’s why? Just because you thought I loved
Camille?”
