In the dim light, I barely made out Mathias’s stubbled chin and the dark circles beneath his eyes.

Rejected and Abandoned UntetheRight Man Found Me
“Don’t you know, Irene?”
“I’m about to lose my mind because of you!”
“You don’t answer my calls, you ignore my messages, and now you’ve gone and hired bodyguards for protection… Irene, who taught you all of this?”
“Who taught you to post pictures with other men in the dead of night?”
“Do you have any idea how furious I am?”
With each word, Mathias slammed his fist into the poster wall behind me, the impact rattling the room.
The sickening sound of flesh hitting steel echoed through the air, leaving a trace of blood lingering.
“I told you we were over.”
“Not answering my calls, ignoring my messages, hiring bodyguards to protect yourself from me… those are the things I should have done from the beginning.”
“And as for me showing affection with my husband.
“What business is it of yours?
“You’re meddling too much…”
“What husband?”
My
words only seemed to fan the flames of Mathias’s fury, pushing him closer to the edge of madness. His eyes glinted with a dangerous, almost feral light.
“I’m your husband!”
“Irene, have you forgotten? His voice was raw with anger. “We had an engagement ceremony!”
As if struck by a sudden memory, he fumbled in his pocket, pulling out a ring with trembling hands.
“This is our engagement ring, the one I had made for you!”
He grabbed my hand, his fingers cold as he tried to yank off the diamond ring from my finger, desperate to
replace it with his.
But Norman’s ring, carefully crafted and perfectly fitting, refused to budge. In the struggle, Mathias’s ring slipped from his grasp and clattered to the floor.
“My ring, my ring!”
Mathias collapsed to his knees, frantic, his hands darting across the floor in a mad scramble
I calculated my odds of escaping, the tension thick in the air. In our free–fighting sessions, Mathias had trained alongside me for over a year. If it came to a physical confrontation, my chances weren’t good, after all, the difference in strength between men and women was undeniable.
But luck was on my side; his focus was completely absorbed by the ring, giving me the perfect moment to act
Quietly, I slipped off my high heels, preparing them as makeshift weapons, and edged toward the door. But just freedom seemed within reach, Mathias’s hand shot out, grabbing my ankle with a force that sent a jolt of panic
through me.
His eyes were bloodshot, and his teeth ground together with such force I thought they might shatter. He hissed
through clenched teeth, “Irene, why? You won’t even talk to me properly anymore?”
I felt a bitter laugh bubbling up in my chest, though it was laced with anger.
“Talk properly? Look at what you’ve done. You dragged me into this place, and now you want to talk properly?”
“Go find someone else to unleash this madness on!”
“No”
His voice shot up, sharp and high, before quickly sinking into a pit of exhaustion.
He rubbed his temples as if the weight of his own thoughts was crushing him.
His voice softened. surprising me with its quiet almost pleading tone.
“I regret it.”
“I shouldn’t have let Nathalia’s words cloud my judgment, shouldn’t have treated you like that, shouldn’t have abandoned you”
“I admit it, I’ve been a jerk. You were right to be angry with me.”
“But I’ve changed. I promise I won’t have anything to do with Nathalia again. Ever.”
“Don’t say those things just to rile me up, okay?”
Up until that moment, Mathias still seemed to think I was simply sulking, as though my frustration was some petty game.
He probably thought the photo I posted on social media was some kind of strategy to pull him back into my life. It was laughable, yet it left me speechless at the same time.
But Mathias, oblivious to the growing irritation in me, stepped closer
He knelt on one knee with exaggerated seriousness, holding the ring up as if this were some grand proposal. “Irene, marry me.”
“I promise you, I’ll give you the grandest wedding.”
“From now on, you’ll have all of my love.
