Chapter 12%
Pain seared through my scalp as Sarah yanked my hair harder, dragging me back. I clawed at her hands, but she didn’t loosen her grip.
“Let go!” I screamed, but Sarah only pulled harder, her breath ragged with rage.”
“I should’ve been you!” she hissed. “I should’ve had it all! The money, the power, Mikael–everything!”
I twisted, finally breaking free as I stumbled backward. My heart pounded as Sarah lunged at me again. I barely dodged her attack, grabbing a nearby chair and shoving it between us.
“You were my friend, Sarah!” I shouted. “How could you do this to me?“>
Sarah sneered. “Friend? Don’t make me laugh. You never saw me as anything but your shadow. Always second to Sofia Garcia, the perfect daughter, the perfect girlfriend.”
“That’s not true!” I snapped, my chest tightening. “I cared about you!“}
She laughed bitterly. “Cared? You pitied me! Do you know what it felt like to watch you have everything handed to you? Mikael, money, attention? And I–what did I get? Leftovers? Scraps?“}
I gripped the candlestick tighter. “You don’t get to blame me for your choices! You betrayed me, Sarah. You slept with Mikael!“}
Her expression hardened. “Because he wanted you. He always wanted you. But do you know why he stayed with you? Your money. Your family name. If it weren’t for that, he would’ve chosen me!”
“You don’t know that,” I spat. “And you didn’t stop there! You tried to take everything from me, including my life!“}
Sarah lunged again, and this time I wasn’t quick enough. We crashed to the ground, wrestling for control. Her nails dug into my arms, and I cried out, shoving her off. But she came back.
“You ruined my career!” she screamed. “You humiliated me in front of everyone! Do you think I can ever show my face again? I lost everything because of you!“>

I shoved her back. “You lost everything because of your greed! Don’t blame me for what you did to yourself!“}
Sarah’s eyes burned with hatred. She reached for a knife that had fallen to the floor during the fight. My breath caught as she gripped
“Sarah, don’t-“D
She slashed at me. I stumbled back, but not fast enough. Pain exploded across my arm as the blade sliced through skin. Blood poured down my sleeve, but I didn’t stop moving.”
I grabbed a nearby vase and threw it at her. It shattered, but Sarah dodged, charging at me again. I barely managed to sidestep her, pushing her toward the door.”
I needed to get out. Now.
I ran, clutching my bleeding arm as I bolted up the staircase. Sarah’s footsteps thundered behind me.
“You can’t run from this, Sofia!” she screamed.}
I burst through a door and found myself on the rooftop. The cold wind hit me, making me shiver as I spun to face her.
“This ends here,” I said, trying to steady my breathing.”
Sarah stalked forward, the knife gleaming in the moonlight. “It’s already over. You just don’t know it yet.“}]
I circled away from the edge, keeping my eyes on her. “You’re wrong. I’m not the weak, naive girl you think I am.”
She laughed. “We’ll see.”
Sarah lunged, and I dodged again, but my foot slipped on the wet concrete. I stumbled, falling to one knee as Sarah loomed over me. She raised the knife, but I grabbed her wrist, struggling to push it away.
“You should’ve stayed dead!” she hissed.”
I twisted her arm, making her drop the knife, but she tackled me before I could grab it. We rolled, fists flying as we fought for control. “You don’t deserve this life!” Sarah screamed, shoving me toward the edge.}
I kicked her back, both of us panting as we scrambled to our feet. My back hit the railing, and my stomach dropped. The edge was too close.
“Sarah, stop!” I begged. “You’re going to kill us both!”
She didn’t stop. She lunged, and I ducked, grabbing her by the arm and swinging her toward the edge. But she grabbed me too, her nails digging into my skin as we both lost our footing.”
“No!” I screamed as we toppled over the railing.
Wind rushed past us. Sarah’s scream echoed in my ears as we fell. My hand scrambled for something–anything…
