Chapter 37
The boys stared at him. “Dude, FOR REAL?”
Just then, Steve entered the room.
They all scrambled to shove their phones away and faced him.
Steve shrugged off his suit jacket, casually loosened his tie, and looked at them with a relaxed expression, “You’ve been keeping watch for a while. You must be tired. I’ll take over from here–why don’t you all step out?”
None of them moved, instead eyeing him with suspicion.
Clive’s eyes darted mischievously as he probed, “Steve, is that a Humanity detector on Regina’s wrist? Did you buy it?”
Steve’s brow furrowed slightly, barely noticeable.
The mention of this device brought some irritation.
He had just given Regina five points earlier.
But after a fight, only one point remained.
Hiding his displeasure, he replied calmly, “It was Scarlett who bought it. It’s for real–time monitoring to prevent her from going on a rampage.”
Clive nodded, pretending to be enlightened. “So, what’s her score now?”
Steve placed his suit jacket on the couch. “Eleven.”
Clive feigned surprise. “She actually gained a point? Something good must’ve happened to her!”
Steve’s tone turned colder. “It wasn’t just one point–it was five. She lost four in the fight, leaving only one.”
The boys were stunned.
She gained five points–That was A LOT.
For someone like Regina, who’s basically a walking wrecking ball, racking up five points at once was wild.
Preston grew anxious. “Who made that happen? How did it happen?”
Brad jumped in, just as hooked. “Was it Scarlett who bumped her up?”
Steve didn’t answer immediately, his gaze shifting between the two boys.
Brad’s clean, straightforward expression showed pure curiosity.
Preston, though? He looked wound tight, like a guitar string about to snap, nervous for an answer he wasn’t ready to hear.
Steve raised an eyebrow. “Why are you so eager to know?”
He crossed his legs, leaning back with a smirk, his tone teasing. “What’s it to you, huh?”
Preston’s expression faltered.
The guys all held their breath, like the air got sucked out of the room.
Then it hit them all at once-
The person who caused Regina’s five–point increase wasn’t anyone else-
It was Steve.
Steve seemed to sense their realization, meeting their stares openly.
Roy cast a curious glance at Regina, his thoughts buzzing with speculation.
He wondered what exactly had happened between her and Steve to make her gain five points in one go.

Chapter 37
Preston sat back in his chair, his expression dark as a storm cloud, simmering in silence.
So what if she gained five points?
‘She’d already lost four–only one remained!”
On the hospital bed, Regina let out a faint whimper, her eyelids fluttering open.
Preston’s face lit up with joy. “Regina!”
Roy moved quickly to her side. “Regina, how are you feeling?”
Steve got up from the couch and walked over, worry creasing his face as he checked her out.
Regina blinked at them in confusion. Her mind was still foggy, and the slightest movement sent sharp pain coursing through her. “Ah!” she winced.
Preston hurriedly placed a steadying hand on her shoulder. “Don’t move. You’re injured and need to rest.”
It finally clicked for her-
She’d been shot!
She then felt bad, actually. Letting herself get shot while protecting a client? Huge mistake.
If she couldn’t even guarantee her clients‘ safety, it would be hard for others to trust her services?
And she’d never be able to cash in big time.
Gnawing at her lip in frustration, she turned to Preston, who was sitting loyally at her side. “What are you doing here?”
She clearly remembered him dodging her all afternoon, not even sparing her a look.
She’d been dead sure he couldn’t stand her.
And now here he was, looking worried and torn.
Her confusion deepened. “Didn’t you tell me to stay away from you? Why are you here now? Don’t you hate me anymore?”
