Chapter 42
In the dead–silent lounge, Regina stood by the door, her face radiating with a cheerful smile.
Everyone just felt an inexplicable chill.
Unaware of the atmosphere, Regina said gently, “Come find me soon. I’ll head back now.”
She turned and walked away, her steps light and carefree, as if she hadn’t just argued with Leonardo.
Watching her leave, Clive’s face darkened as a thought occurred to him. “I initially thought her talk about being reborn was just nonsense, but when you think about the details, they actually check out.”
Everyone looked at him, startled. “What details?”
He explained, “Yesterday, my mom mentioned during an argument that she chose wrong–that she shouldn’t have let Regina die and was deceived by Melinda. At the time, I thought she was just rambling out of anger.”
Xavier gasped. “Does that mean your mom was reborn too?”
Brad, recalling the events of yesterday, felt the situation spiraling further out of control. “If that’s true, then how did Mom die in the previous life? Was it natural or… was she murdered?”
Roy sat down, analyzing, “If it wasn’t natural, Melinda probably played a part in it.”
The room fell into stunned silence.
Clive and Brad were outraged. “What do you mean?”
Brad’s temper flared. “Roy, you can’t just point fingers at my sister because you’ve got a grudge. She’s been through hell already!”
Roy smirked. “Oh yeah? Then why’s your mom so done with Melinda now? If she died naturally, Mom would just patch things up with Regina and keep Melinda close. So why’s she acting like Melinda’s the enemy?”
That shut them up. The more they thought about it, the more Roy’s theory made sense.
He kept going, “If Regina’s really reborn, then last time around, your family took her in but treated her like crap.”
Brad’s face darkened. “How can you be so sure we didn’t treat her well?”
Clive defended, “Our family isn’t like that.”
Steve chuckied coldly. “If you had, her starting Humanity wouldn’t have been one.”
Both brothers‘ faces stiffened.
Steve continued, “We’ve noticed the pattern: doing good things for Regina, like giving her money, increases her Humanity. But her score is just one. That says plenty about her past.”
Preston frowned in disgust. “Looks like your family didn’t provide her with anything–not even the most basic necessities!”
The Mitchell brothers were left speechless.
They wondered if they really had failed Regina?
Xavier frowned in confusion. “But if Regina has been reborn, why was she acting like she didn’t know us?”
The other guys nodded. “Yeah, we’re all tight with the Mitchells. She should’ve run into us at a million parties in her last life. How’s she drawing a blank on all of us?”
Steve’s eyes flashed with coldness as he raised his tone slightly. “Is that really hard to figure out?”
The boys turned to him.
Roy, standing nearby, let out a cold laugh. “Because she had no place in the Mitchell family. No education, no social gatherings, not even the most basic hangouts. She was just a shadow, like a mouse hidden in the dark.”
Preston felt his breath hitch as an image came to mind.

Chapter 42
At grand parties, they would toast and laugh, chatting with their friends. Even Melinda, the adopted daughter, could mingle and join in the conversations.
But Regina, newly reunited with her biological family, stayed home all alone.
She was alone there, away from any social occasions.
And that was why she knew no one from the local rich families.
Brad protested. “That’s impossible! Our family isn’t like that!”
Preston’s expression darkened as his voice rose. “Stop lying!”
The sudden outburst startled everyone.
Pointing at Brad, Preston snapped, “Your family never gave a damn about Regina from day one. You think we’re blind?”
Brad’s face went white, the harsh truth hitting him like a truck, leaving him with nothing to say.
Preston’s eyes flared red with fury as he spat, “I don’t care what you think about your bio sister, Brad, but Regina’s under my wing now. Nobody’s messing with her anymore!”
