Chapter 5 The Mattress Worth Two Million Dollars
Yvonne still remembered that day vividly.
After registering marriage, she brought Shane back to the hospital together and knelt in front of Harold, who was in a coma.
At that moment, Harold’s icy hand suddenly gripped hers, and tears flowed from the corners of his eyes, as if he had countless words he wanted to
say.
She understood his pain.
She knew he was conscious and aware, just unable to express himself.
He hadn’t spoken a word since the accident.
Until today, he was still lying alone in a hospital room in the nursing home, surviving on nutrients and a feeding tube, living without dignity.
The ringing of Yvonne’s phone interrupted her thoughts.
It was Nadine calling.
Yvonne put it on speaker and asked lazily, “Have you handled it?”
“Of course, you have to trust my strength!”
Yvonne rolled her eyes.
Nadine detailed excitedly, “I tore down the cabinets and wallpaper. Tricia cried miserably. I had people take away the pots, pans, utensils, decorations, and clothes you bought.
The appliances were too heavy to dismantle, so we’ll do that slowly tomorrow. Most importantly, about that thing in the bedroom, don’t worry. I threw Maggie out with the mattress. Oh, you know what? There were so many onlookers. I have to say, the soundproofing in that mansion is really good. If I hadn’t carried her downstairs, no one would have known.”
Yvonne asked, “Is it possible that they were just waiting to watch the spectacle? What happened next?”
“Shane protected her and they ran away.”
Yvonne closed her eyes and couldn’t help but imagine the scene of Shane defending Maggie in front of everyone. Her stomach churned, and she felt like throwing up.
She gritted her teeth and asked, “Did you smash anything besides what couldn’t be taken away?”
Although she didn’t expect Nadine, who loved money so much, to smash much.
“I did,” Nadine replied. “I smashed the mattress to pieces.”
Yvonne was speechless. “Come on, how could you take the kitchen ware but smash the mattress worth two million dollars?”
Nadine was dumbfounded.
Through the radio waves, Yvonne seemed to see Nadine’s thighs being slapped purple by herself.
Nadine said stubbornly, “That mattress was slept on by the jerk and mistress. Yvonne, we don’t need it.”
Yvonne felt that something was off.
Noticing how quiet it was on the other end, Yvonne asked, “Where are you now?”
“At the police station.”
Yvonne wasn’t surprised.
In civil disputes, this formality had to be gone through.
“I’ll send Sienna to pick you up.”
Sienna Dale was the company’s legal director, a legend who could put defendants and their lawyers away together. Handling disputes was always her
forte.
“Sigh,” Nadine sighed. “I already called her. She said she’s rushing a contract and is afraid the sucker will back out, so she doesn’t have time for me.”
Yvonne was momentarily at a loss for words.
At the Plinas Police Station.
Tricia sipped the coffee handed to her by the police officer, sobbing with each sip.
Tricia’s heart ached as she looked at Shane’s swollen face, and tears streamed down her face.
“Sir, you have to do me justice!”
The two police officers sitting across from her were obviously experienced and calm as ever.
Tricia became more and more agitated. “My daughter–in–law even brought a gang of thugs to rob us, and control my son and me. In just half an hour, they emptied our house! Not even a hurricane could be that fast!”
The police officer on the left replied, “Nadine has provided us with the moving company’s business license and a phone recording from the

house–owner. We can confirm that she was acting on behalf of the owner. As for whether the items taken away and destroyed all belonged to the owner, that still needs to be investigated.”
“But that is also my son’s and my house!”
The police officer on the right said, “Just because you live there doesn’t make it your house.”
Tricia was speechless.
When she moved in with her husband and two sons, they had brought nothing but their luggage, and Yvonne had taken care of all their accommodation needs. The things they had bought themselves were few and far between, and none of them were worth much.
But Nadine seemed to have a scanner, automatically ignoring everything they had bought themselves!
Tricia couldn’t swallow this!
“Look, Yvonne hit my son, and you can still see the fingerprints on his face!” Tricia’s eyes darted around. “That’s right, domestic violence is illegal too!”
The policeman on the left glanced at Shane, who was glowering and silent, and asked Tricia, “So, the reason for your report is home invasion, property damage, or domestic violence?”
Tricia hesitated for a moment before struggling to squeeze out two words, “Domestic violence!”
“Alright, we’ll notify the party involved to come and give us her side of the story.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a female voice was heard.
“No need to notify, I’m here.”
