Chapter 26%
Vero had planned to take me to other places, but just as we were about to leave, one of her subordinates called, informing her that there was an issue at the company that required her immediate attention.3
Vero’s expression turned tense and she asked me to come along, but I didn’t want to delay her, so I shook my head and refused.
“You go ahead. I’ll just hang around here for a while and head home after I’ll make you your favorite braised pork when you get back.” Hearing this, Vero didn’t insist further. She quickly turned around and drove off!!
After watching her leave, I took a taxi to head home. But before long. I began to feel something was off. The route the taxi was taking wasn’t the one to my house. I called out to the driver. “This isn’t the way home. You’re going the wrong way.”
The driver smiled and waved his hand casually. “No, I’m just taking a shortcut. Don’t worry, we’ll be at your place in no time,
But something still didn’t feel right. “How about you just drop me off here? I need to buy something.”
The driver seemed to ignore me and continued driving forward. I became more certain that something was wrong. I took out my phone to call the police, but just then, I felt a sharp pain in the back of my head. The next moment, everything went black and I lost consciousness. When I woke up again, I found myself in an abandoned building, my body tied to a stone pillar, unable to move. I glanced around and saw the driver from earlier, along with two thugs standing nearby, leering at me with lewd looks. A sense of dread washed over me. I asked them, “Who sent you?”
“Who sent us doesn’t matter, the driver sneered, rubbing his chin. “What matters is that tonight, we’re going to have a good time with you.“S Suppressing my disgust, I replied calmly, “How much did the person who sent you pay you? III give you ten times that
The driver sneered, his tone filled with disdain. “We in this line of work value credibility. Since we’ve accepted her job, we have to do it for her. No matter if someone offers us a billion, I won’t betray her.“8
As he spoke, he and the two thugs moved closer, cracking their knuckles while leering at me.
“Don’t worry, we’ll be very gentle with you, it won’t hurt.”
I frowned, knowing that if they succeeded, I wouldn’t be able to attend tomorrow’s competition. I tried to buy myself some time. “Don’t say I didn’t wam you. The people behind me are not someone you can mess with. If you dare lay a hand on me, I guarantee you won’t make it through the night. If you don’t believe me, you can check who I really am
Seeing the seriousness in my voice and sensing that I wasn’t lying, the three men exchanged glances for a few seconds. Then, the driver signaled one of his lackeys to go investigate my identity.
