Chapter 9%
Rebecca silently cursed, wanting to rush over and grab the phone, but it was too late. The call was already connected.
“Hello, is this Koren?”
But instead of Karen’s voice, a man’s voice came from the other end. Jason’s mind instantly recalled the words Rebecca had just said about how there were always men around Karen. His face darkened in an instant and without another word, he hung up the phone. Seeing this, Rebecca’s eyes flickered with a hint of satisfaction and she pretended to be concerned. “Jason, you’d better not disturb her. She’s probably out on a date with someone right now. It’s just like her… She didn’t want to be my maid of honor, saying she wasn’t feeling well, but now she has the energy to go out and date someone else. Really…..“.
The temperature in the room dropped with her words and Jason’s temples visibly throbbed as he grabbed the coat from the bed and
stormed ouL
“Jason, where are you going?”
But Jason, who had always indulged Rebecca, didn’t say a word. He simply walked downstairs and headed outside.
Rebecca’s heart jumped. She knew Jason was heading to find Karen. In a desperate move, she intentionally missed a step while descending the stairs, tumbling down heavily onto the floor
“Jason, help me!” she cried out!
Hearing the noise, Jason turned around and saw Rebecca lying on the ground in pain, unable to move. He rushed over and quickly picked her up.
“Rebecca, are you okay? Don’t worry, I’ll take you to the hospital night away,” he said this and carried her out of the room,
After the doctor’s examination, it turned out Rebecca only had minor scrapes, with no serious injuries. After applying some medicine, the doctor told Jason to take her home.
“Jason, my leg hurts so much. My doctor has told me that I have a special condition and my pain sensitivity is five times stronger than that of an ordinary person. This little injury might seem trivial to others, but to me, it feels like being stabbed by a knife. I can barely walk. Jason, please don’t leave me. I really need you to take care of me right now.”
After leaving the hospital room, Rebecca leaned most of her weight onto Jason, making it seem as though she could collapse onto the floor if he moved away. She deliberately fabricated a story about her “special condition” to keep him by her side, preventing him from going to find Karen.
Believing Rebecca had fallen down the stairs out of her desire to be close to him, Jason felt a twinge of guilt. Hearing that her pain threshold was five times greater than that of an ordinary person, his guilt intensified. He held her more firmly and spoke with reassurance.
“Don’t worry, I won’t leave you. As long as your injury hasn’t healed, I won’t go anywhere.“}
Hearing the reassuring words, Rebecca’s eyes flashed with a triumphant gleam and she inched closer to Jason.”
As they reached the comer of the hallway, a doctor rushed past, not paying attention to where he was going. As a result, he collided directly with them. Jason instinctively shielded Rebecca, taking the full impact of the crash himself, ensuring that she avoided any harm.8 But the doctor wasn’t as fortunate. He fell to the ground, his documents scattering all around him. He quickly scrambled to his feet, hurriedly gathering the papers while apologizing. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to, I was just in a rush and didn’t pay attention to the road…”
Joson opened his mouth to speak, but his gaze was drawn to the scattered documents on the floor. One of the files caught his attention, his title was “Organ Donation Agreement. In the section for the donor’s name, he immediately recognized the name: Karen Swanson. And in the “Living Status” column, the words written there were: Deceased.
Jason widened his eyes, his heart leaping into his throat. With trembling hands, he picked up the document and confirmed that the donor’s name was indeed Karen. His eyes instantly reddened and he questioned the doctor in disbelief, “What’s going on? Karen was perfectly fine, why does it say she’s deceased?”
aday. By the
The doctor glanced at the document, his face changing slightly and replied truthfully, “The donor fell into the river earlier today. By time we found her, she had no signs of life, so…..”“3
Even without the doctors further explanation, Jason knew what had happened. He quickly recalled what his personal bodyguard had told him a few hours ago. Someone had informed him that Karen had drowned and they were asked to collect her body. His heart sank to the
bottom
That phone call was actually true. Karen really did fall into the river and die.!!
Impossible Karen was such a person who cherished her life, how could she just be gone like this?
Jason shook his head violently, unwilling to accept the reality before him. He turned to look at Rebecca with a fierce gaze. “You said she was fine, didn’t you? Why does it say she’s dead? Tell me, what exactly happened?
