Chapter 20%
When Vincent arrived home, he stared at the closed door, a flicker of hope glimmering in his eyes.
He wanted to push it open, to rush inside, but at the last moment, he hesitated. Instead, he gently nudged the door, letting it creak open little by little
The room was pitch dark. Not a single sign of life.
The light in Vincent’s eyes gradually dimmed.
Then, suddenly, the lights flickered on. A spark of hope reignited in his chest–only to be quickly extinguished.
“Mark, why aren’t you asleep yet?”
The older man stood before him, his expression unreadable. He stepped forward and handed Vincent an envelope.
Vincent’s fingers trembled as he tore it open, expecting–hoping–it was from Sierra.
But inside was a resignation letter.
His breath was caught in his throat, and his head snapped up. “You’re resigning?%
The housekeeper, Mark, nodded. “Sir Vincent, Madam has always cared for you sincerely, yet you have repeatedly betrayed her trust “Every time Ms. Louise visited, she humiliated Madam. But Madam never told you–she always smiled and told me to keep quiet, not wanting to burden you.”
“Sir Vincent, I advise you sincerely–don’t assume that people won’t leave. They stay only because they haven’t given up on you y
yet
With that, Mark turned to go. But before leaving, he added, “By the way, Madam sent a parcel. I left it on the coffee table in the living room. You might want to take a look.”
After saying that, he left without looking back.
Vincent’s gaze fell on the small box sitting atop the coffee table. His steps felt unbearably heavy as he walked toward it.
His hands, as if shackled by an invisible weight, struggled to move. It took him half an hour just to open the parcel.
Inside, he found a divorce agreement, a USB drive, and a voice recorder.
His pulse pounded. He grabbed the USB drive and the recorder and rushed to the study. It seemed all the answers he needed were inside
There had to be something in them–something Sierra wanted to tell him.
He plugged in the USB drive with shaking hands. The screen lit up with footage–evidence of Sierra being framed by Louise. And in every video, Vincent saw himself, blindly defending Louise, turning his back on the woman who had once trusted him.
His heart sank as he realized Sierra would never forgive him.X
Yet he still refused to accept it. Desperation clawing at his chest, he turned on the voice recorder.X
As it played, he heard Louise speaking to a doctor.
Vincent’s mind went blank
Disoriented, he stumbled into their bedroom. His eyes swept the room There was nothing left. No trace of Sierra remained. Suddenly, he laughed.
*Hahaha… Sierra, you really are heartless! You didn’t even leave a single thing behind for me!
Moments later, his laughter faded into silence. Then, he growled, “Then gol Never come back! I don’t care!”
However, when he realized what he said, he clenched his fist and spat coldly. “It’s all because of Louise, that vile bitch!”
“Yes… It’s because of her that’s why Sierra didn’t dare to come back!”
His eyes darkened with madness. “As long as Louise is gone… Sierra will return to me…”
Over night, the Ainsworth’s company ceased to exist. Devastated, Adam and Veronica jumped to their deaths, while their second daughter vanished without a trace.
–
Meanwhile, I had just landed by helicopter when the news reached me. But at that moment, I was standing before the senior brother who had come to pick me up.X
“Tm Sierra Ainsworth. We’ve spoken online before, I introduced myself confidently.
The man’s eyes flickered with admiration, and a touch of tenderness.)
“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” he said, his tone warm. “I know this might sound strange, but the moment I saw you, I felt an instant
connection.”
“I feel like, we’ve known each other for a long time:“”
The assistant standing beside him chuckled, teasing, “Sir Stanley, you’re not seriously using such an old–school pickup line on a beautiful woman, are you?”
