Chapter 2X
After hanging up, I was about to tell my son about the divorce. But then, he suddenly pointed at… an amusement park on the TV.
“Mom, look at the amusement park!” he said. “It looks so fun there! When Dad takes us there, I’m gonna take so many pictures so we’ll remember it forever!”
The excitement lit up his whole face, and seeing that pure hope…. It made my heart heavy, complicated with guilt and hesitation.
But in the end, I couldn’t tell my little boy just yet.
I decided, ‘T’ll break the news after Wiley takes us to the amusement park.
The next day, after making breakfast for Beau, I headed out of the hospital to quit my jobs one after another
The last stop was at a luxury store inside a mall. Just as my manager was about to sign off on my resignation letter, a sudden
commotion broke out at the entrance.
I looked up, and there he was–Wiley, hand in hand with his first love.
“Wiley, thanks for bringing me here, but everything’s way too expensive. Should we check out another store instead?” Severine said sweetly.
My husband just let out a chuckle and turned to a sales assistant.
“Pack every single M–size outfit you have and send it to Miss Stroud’s place.”
At those words, the manager’s eyes practically turned into dollar signs, and he immediately waved at me.
“Why are you still standing there? Hurry up and pack Miss Stroud’s things!”
The moment the manager shouted, Wiley instinctively turned around. His eyes met mine–and I could tell his whole body stiffened.
He parted his lips, looking like he wanted to say something.
But I looked away first.
Without a word, I picked up the shopping bags…. and started packing one luxurious piece after another for the woman my husband clearly wasn’t over with yet.
But then, out of nowhere, Severine stuck out her foot and tripped me!!
I didn’t even see it coming. Dammit, I crashed hard onto the floor–in the most humiliating, stupid position possible!
Before I could even get up, the manager barked at me.§
“Useless idiot! You ruined Miss Stroud’s favorite piece! Get over here!”
He’d been itching for an excuse to humiliate me, and that moment was his golden chance.
That bastard actually grabbed me by the hair and started dragging me toward the changing room!
For a second, I saw my husband tense up, like he was about to step in.
But then his ex clung tighter to his arm, whining, “Wiley, I think… I sprained my ankle… It hurts… so bad.”
He lowered his eyes and saw Severine’s swollen ankle. And without a second thought–he scooped her up in his arms, bridal style, and walked away. I
I watched his back as he left without glancing back–and there was nothing on my face anymore. Just numbness.
In the end, I grabbed a nearby clothing rack and slammed it into the manager’s arrogant face.
That was the only way I managed to break free.
When I got to the mall entrance, I spotted Wiley not far away.
Thinking about how he had just stood there and watched while I was being dragged like garbage–I saw red. I stormed over, ready to confront him.
But then, I saw a man walk up to him and overheard him speak to my husband with respect.N
“Sir, I’ve booked out the entire amusement park for your son, just like you asked. But… won’t this reveal your identity?”
I didn’t hear the rest.
The only thing that stuck in my head was that he booked the whole amusement park for our son.§
! turned away without a word and rushed back to the hospital.
When Beau saw me–hair a mess and clothes wrinkled–his eyes turned red in an instant.
He hugged me tight and asked, “Mom, did someone hurt you?”
My face still stung from the manager’s slap, but looking at my boy… I didn’t feel upset. I just felt happy for him.”
“Mors just found out that your dad bought tickets to the amusement park. He’s taking us there tomorrow!”
He pulled me to the bed and gently helped me apply ointment on my bruises.#
The next day, from the moment we woke up, we waited–eyes glued to the phone—for Wiley to call.
But by two in the aftemoon… still nothing. Not even a single text
I called tem myself–only to hear the line go dead after one ring S
That’s when a deep, cold anxiety started creeping in God… Is he really going to disappoint our son again?
Just then, my innocent son reached up and gently smoothed out the crease in my forehead with his little hand.
“Maybe Dad’s het by Let’s wort a intle longer Wom

“Maybe Dad’s just busy. Let’s wait a little longer, Mom.”
My little boy… He’s too understanding for his age.
As I looked at him, in my head, I kept seeing how bright and confident Severine’s son looked at the birthday party. The memory stabbed through my chest like a knife. It was painful beyond words.
I didn’t want to wait anymore.
I took Beau to the area near the amusement park, thinking, ‘It’ll be easier for Wiley to find us after he’s done with work.’0 We waited and waited until two hours passed. ‘Still no sign of him.‘
My anxiety was through the roof. My palms were sweating.N
Just then, Beau’s eyes lit up. He pointed in one direction and shouted, “Mom! Look! It’s Dad!”
I whipped my head around, following his little finger–and sure enough, there was Wiley, stepping out of a sleek Maybach.
O
But before his appearance could bring me relief, I saw him turn back toward the car–like a perfect gentleman, he reached in and gently helped Severine out.
And right behind her… was her son Rowan.
At that moment, my son and I just stood there, our feet unable
