Chapter 80
No. But he wanted to. After learning I was his biological daughter, neither Dad nor Mom bothered to ask further. They’d heard I had been raised by miners and, deep down, looked down on me.
Celia couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Fowler, do you-“}
“Who let you in?” Mr. Fowler pointed toward the door, saying, “Get out! No one is allowed in without my permission!“}
Celia’s mouth dropped open, her face turning pale.
Just moments ago, she’d been bragging outside that it was her amazing performance that earned her the principal’s personal attention- basically showering herself in fake glory.”
Now, she looked like she’d just been slapped across the face.}]
Humiliated, she slinked out of the room. But then, Mr. Fowler threw a glance at Alden.}
“He’s my boyfriend,” I said quickly.
Mr. Fowler gave a small nod and treated Alden a lot more respectfully after that.}
Dad asked again, “Mr. Fowler, can you please explain about the thing you just said.”}
“Your daughter,” Mr. Fowler said, turning to the others, “is Chief Engineer Lutz. She entered MIT’s Early Entrance Program at the age of eleven, started working two years later and by the following year, she was already leading entire projects.“}
“Three years ago, when Miss Lutz came from abroad to visit her family, she also gave a technical seminar at our school. Our achievements in computer science today are largely thanks to the foundation she laid for us.“>
Mr. Fowler spoke, he gave Dad a strange look and added, “I have to say, Mr. Spencer, as her biological father, how could you know so little about your own daughter? And you were about to enroll her here as a student. If I didn’t know better, I would’ve thought you were deliberately trying to insult me.”W
Dad’s eyes went round like saucers and Mom looked just as shocked.}
Even Alden stared at me in surprise. “You’re this amazing?”}}
“We… we only just brought Sherrie back,” Dad mumbled awkwardly, scratching his head. “We don’t know much about her yet.”>
But when he looked at me now, his eyes were full of pride. Mom’s gaze softened too, much more loving than before.
With the truth out, I wasn’t going to be a student. But since I was already here, I agreed to help the school tackle some of their technical issues.
Dad and Mom followed me around the whole time.
Some students who recognized them would greet them and they would proudly introduce me as their daughter, adding that I had come to offer professional guidance. I also noticed Celia lurking nearby, staring daggers at me the whole time.
By the time I was finally allowed to leave, the sky was already turning dark.
On the way home, I sat in the backseat sandwiched between Mom and Dad. They didn’t really know how to talk to me, so they just sat there looking awkward–but proud.
I’m the kind of person who’s lazy about everything except work, so I leaned back, shut my eyes and pretended to nap. But I could feel it- that prickling sensation of being watched. When I opened my eyes, I saw Celia glaring at me like I’d just ruined her whole life.
As soon as we got home, my parents were already reaching for their phones, eager to tell the world about me.
I gently reminded them: they could tell people I was a prodigy or a computer science expert, but they should keep the details vague because a lot of it was classified.
They nodded eagerly and the next second, they were on their phones, boasting away.
I collapsed onto the couch, scrolling through my phone, while Alden sat beside me, feeding me sweets now and then.
Celia circled nearby, her face stormy, but in the end, she didn’t say a word.
Later, when dinner was ready, we all gathered at the dining table.}
Celia immediately declared, “Mom, Dad, I’ll work hard and be just as outstanding as Sherrie!“}
“Sherrie entered the youth program at eleven years old. You’re already eighteen,” Mom said sharply.
Then she added, “Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, effort just can’t compare to talent.”M
