After dying suddenly from overwork 9

The crowd stared at the Jordans in shock, whispering among themselves

What? Didn’t the Jordans claim that Eliza left on her own and they couldn’t stop her?”

“That’s what they said, but it’s obvious now that the Jordans are hypocrites. They always take the credit for everything.”

Wow, raising a child for so many years just to kick her out? That’s cold.”

Under the weight of the crowd’s judgmental stares, even someone as shameless as Melanie could not hold her ground

As for my parents, along with Edward, their faces flushed red with anger and shame, though they could do nothing but endure it

I found it hilarious. I loved seeing them so infuriated yet powerless against me

Reuben and the others stood nearby, their expressions dark as they glared at the Jordans. Reuben even reached out to gently pat

my back

What do you plan to do now?he asked

I glanced at their faces and said, I want to take Wallie with me.”

Wallie was probably the only thing tying me emotionally to the Jordans. As for the family themselvesI might as well treat them

as strangers

However, if they dared to cross me again, they should not expect me to hold back

The banquet ended awkwardly, and it was a disaster for the Jordans. Instead of boosting their reputation, it became a source of

embarrassment

When I returned to the Jordanshouse, their faces were filled with rage. My mother was sitting on the couch, looking down at me

with disdain

“Eliza, how dare you come back? Aren’t you just clinging shamelessly to the Jordanswealth? If you kneel and apologize, I might

generously allow you to stay. After all, with our wealth and status, what’s one more mouth to feed?”

Honestly, her selfabsorbed imagination was a sickness that needed treatment

Ignoring their smug and judgmental expressions, I got straight to the point. I’m here to take Wallie.”

My mother’s expression changed, and her voice was sharp as she pointed at me, saying, You’re dreaming. Even a drop of rain

that falls here belongs to the Jordans.”

Disregarding the insults and yelling behind me, I headed toward the doghouse, only to find it empty

Unease crept into my heart as I returned to the living room. Where’s Wallie?”

Melanie spoke up with a smug, malicious grin, Oh, sorry, Eliza. I’m allergic to dog fur, so I had him thrown out.”
