Noah’s phone kept going straight to voicemail.
I pulled out my IV, grabbed my jacket, and rushed out of the hospital.
At the entrance to the Zhang Corporation building, I saw Reed and his group coming out.
Seeing me, Reed rushed forward to push me back.
“Who told you to run around like this?”
Before he finished speaking, a hand sliced through the air, aiming for my face. Reed caught it before it could land.
Grace’s eyes were red and swollen as she screamed hysterically.
“It’s confirmed that Noah has kidnapped my father, and you’re still protecting her?
“The sister of a murderer can’t be a good person. She’s deceived you!
“If you hand her over to me now, I’ll pretend I never heard what you said at dinner last night.
“Or are you really going to cancel our engagement for the sister of a killer?”
Reed shielded me behind him, his tone calm but resolute.
“It’s not canceling because I never agreed to marry you in the first place.
“Being engaged to your sister years ago through our parents‘ arrangement was a
mistake.
“Fortunately, she chose what she wanted, which freed me as well.
“I’ve known about Olivia’s family background from the beginning, which is why I
understand her suffering better than anyone.
“Noah kidnapping your father–you know exactly why.
“When you arranged for him to work for your father, you should have anticipated
this consequence.”
From Reed’s explanation, I quickly pieced together the story.
Grace’s return to America had nothing to do with Reed originally.
But after meeting her sister’s former fiancé once, she fell for him instantly.
So she lied about wanting to learn at Reed’s company as an excuse to be near him. Before Grace joined the company, Reed had told her he had feelings for someone.
