Chapter 70
I told the court staff I’d never signed that contract–and besides, I’d already quit by then.
They told me I needed to come in and clarify things in person.>
I didn’t have much choice but to agree.}
I knew what they were doing–backing me into a corner. If I ignored the summons, it’d be seen as an admission of guilt.
So, I had to go back.
When Lauren found out, she insisted on coming with me. She even brought a small team of bodyguards.}
“Sir, you’re an important asset to the company now. We need to make sure you’re safe.“{}
I sighed and let her have her way.
Together, Lauren and I headed back to the city I used to call home.
By the time I got to the courthouse, the Morgans were already there, waiting.”
The moment she saw me, Nicole stormed up, yelling in my face, “Ryan! I told you to come back–who the hell do you think you are, ignoring me?“)
I stared at her coldly. She looked worn out, unhinged even. Clearly, she was reaching the end of her rope.}
“This is your last chance,” she snapped. “Come back to the this to court–and then, you’re going to prison!“}
any, fix the mess you made and I’ll drop the charges. If not, I will take
Her voice trembled with rage, but I didn’t flinch.
“Miss Morgan,” I said icily, “you seem to be forgetting something. I didn’t sign that contract.“}
I could see the flicker of guilt flash across her face before she straightened herself and barked, “You absolutely did! We’ve got multiple people in the company who can vouch for that!”
1 let out a low laugh. “Well then… why don’t you bring all those people in and let them testify?“}
Turning to the judge, I added, “Your Honor, I was told to come here for mediation, but I’m now being openly slandered. This is a serious accusation. I’d like to report this as a criminal offense–false accusation and attempted defamation.“>
The judge agreed without hesitation.
Nicole clearly hadn’t expected me to come prepared. I could see panic flickering in her eyes. But she didn’t have a choice. Gritting her teeth, she called in the so–called witnesses.
Soon, several former colleagues walked in, immediately pointing fingers and throwing accusations my way.
These were the same people who’d spent their time gossiping and spreading rumors after I resigned.
They accused me of embezzling company funds, taking kickbacks from clients and claimed I had personally signed the controversial
contract.
! let them say their piece. The court clerk recorded every word. When they were done, the court clerks had them sign their statements. “Well, Ryan? Got anything to say now?” Nicole sneered, slamming her palm on the table, convinced she had me cornered.
I calmly pulled out my phone and tapped open a saved video.}
Nicole didn’t know I’d had security cameras installed in my office. I’d put them in mostly to protect myself when dealing with tricky clients who liked to slip in unreasonable demands. Never imagined it would come in handy like this.
After I got fired, Drew moved into that office.
The footage clearly showed Drew–her right–hand man–negotiating shady deals. His voice was crystal clear, even bragging about how many percentage points he was skimming off the top.
I handed the phone over to the court officer and the judge.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” I said calmly, standing up, “the evidence speaks for itself.“}
“And I’d like to press charges for false accusation and intentional harm.“}
