The puzzle pieces clicked into place when Ethan arrived, prompting Toby to immediately rise and greet him. A fleeting look of disappointment crossed his face when he registered that Ethan was alone.
Without hesitation, Toby drew Barney aside. Stepping out of the plaza and into a more secluded spot, he murmured, “Search Ethan’s car and house now. If you find any sign of Joyce, anything at all, bring it directly to me!”
After issuing his orders, he lit a cigarette and took a few hard drags–only to end up choking on the smoke and coughing fitfully.
Barney quickly returned. “I didn’t find any traces of Luna Joyce, Alpha. There was no trace of either her or her pup.”
Toby vehemently slammed his hand down on one of the party tables, rage written all over his face. “Damn it! Where exactly did he hide her?”
Barney lifted his head, looking as if he was hesitating to say something.
By the time they returned to the center of the plaza, the guests had already left one after another.
Ethan angrily rushed forward to grab Toby by the collar. “You fucking searched my house?”
Even as Toby averted his gaze, he shouted back, “If you still wish to stay in this pack, then hurry up and hand Joyce over!”
In response, Ethan asked coldly, “How much longer are you going to lie to yourself,
Toby?”
