At that moment, she looked at me.”
“Do you want to know what I was thinking back then?”
I stayed silent, unmoved.
Pam answered her own question.”
“I was angry at first. Why should my life be decided for me like that? But that anger faded quickly, replaced by joy and nervousness.”
“Later, when you put the ring on my finger in front of everyone at the wedding, I knew–I truly belonged to you.“”
Her gaze softened, filled with emotion.”
“You remember all of that, don’t you?”
I replied flatly, “So what if I do?“%
Pam’s eyes lit up. “If you remember, it means you still love me. It means I’m still in your heart.“%
She grabbed my hand, her voice growing more animated.%
“Husband, we’ve been together for so many years. I don’t believe you’ve stopped feeling anything for me.”
I looked at her calmly.
“You’re wrong. I feel nothing for you.“%
“I don’t believe you!” she shouted loud enough that colleagues started glancing over.”
“You still love me. You must still care. You’re just angry and saying things to hurt me, right?”
Looking at the desperate hope in her eyes, I felt drained. There was no point in dragging this on.
“If you won’t believe me, I’ll prove it to you.”
I pulled the ring from her finger and flung it far into the woods.”
“No!“%
She lunged to chase after it, but several coworkers stopped her.
She collapsed on the ground, eyes vacant, like a puppet whose strings had snapped.
I felt nothing for her–no pity, no guilt–and said flatly, “The project’s over. We’re free tomorrow. Let’s go to the Civil Affairs Bureau and get divorced.”
Her eyes flickered with life again, but only desperation.”
“Husband, are you trying to force me to die?“})
I didn’t reply. I turned and walked away.%
She believed I was pushing her to the edge, but she never considered that she had already pushed me over mine long ago.X
When I got home, I lay on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, replaying everything in my mind–our first meeting, the bond we built, the laughter and late–night talks, the wedding joy, and the crushing betrayal.
This relationship was never one–sided. We both made mistakes.
I had spoiled her too much, and made her believe that no matter what she did, I would always forgive her.!!
She had lied, and worse–betrayed. There’s no greater poison in a relationship than deception. She had served it twice.!!
“David, are you in there?“!
Her voice broke through the silence outside the door.“]
I hesitated, then got up and opened it.”
She had just finished showering, her damp hair clinging to her shoulders, her body wrapped in simple pajamas.
I frowned.”
“It’s late. We’re flying out tomorrow. Go back to sleep.”
Suddenly, she threw herself into my arms, clutching me so tightly it felt like she wanted to merge into me.”
“Give me a child,” she whispered.”
I stared at her, stunned, then pushed her away.”
“Pam, are you out of your mind?”
“I’m not crazy!” she shouted. “I just want to have a child with you. If we have a child–even if we get divorced–you’ll never forget me.“}] She rushed at me again, clawing at my clothes.
I stood still, not reacting.”
Eventually, she broke down sobbing in my arms.
Only then did I speak coldly.
“Have you finished your performance?“%
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry..”
She repeated the words again and again, clinging to me like a drowning person.”
Mooked down at her, my expression frozen.#
10:15 AM
Only then did I speak coldly.
“Have you finished your performance?”
“I’m sorry… I’m sorry…”
She repeated the words again and again, clinging to me like a drowning person.
I looked down at her, my expression frozen.
Tonight, she had truly shocked me.]
Not because of her desperation, but because of her logic.
In her mind, a child was a means to bind me to her forever.
Even in divorce, she wanted a permanent hold on me.
