Chapter 4
One week later, deep into the night.
Dylan came home late.
The moment he stepped through the door, he spotted a slender figure curled up on the couch in silk pajamas.
He sighed.
“Elena, how many times do I have to tell you? I’ll come back when I’m done with work. You don’t have to-”
He froze mid–sentence as the figure’s face turned toward him.
The sneer died on his lips.

Under his cold stare, Sophia trembled slightly.
“Dylan… Elena… she still hasn’t come back. I’ve sent her so many apology texts, but she never replies. Maybe… maybe I should just move out?”
Seeing her on the verge of tears again, Dylan frowned, then pulled her stiffly into his arms.
He kissed her forehead–mechanically, like checking something off a list–and muttered,
“Don’t overthink it.”
“This is your home now–the home of our heir. Whether Elena accepts it or not doesn’t matter.”
Later, on the balcony, Dylan stood in a loosely tied bathrobe, lighting a cigarette-

even though he’d given them up years ago.
Tonight, he couldn’t fight the craving.
His fingers hovered over a familiar name at the very bottom of his contacts list.
Nine years.
He almost hit call.
Almost
But after burning through two cigarettes, he shoved the phone back into his pocket.
Instead, he sent a cold, detached message:
[Elena, tomorrow is the Old Alpha’s 80th birthday. You’d better behave. Don’t cause a scene–for Sophia’s sake, and for the pup

she’s carrying.]
On the day of the Old Alpha’s birthday, Dylan arrived at the celebration with Sophia on his arm, playing the role of the perfect mate.
He didn’t let go of her hand until his grandfather appeared.
Then he stepped forward, leaving Sophia behind to stand proudly at the Old Alpha’s side and greet the guests.
“And where’s our Luna, Elena?”
Someone asked, pointedly.
Dylan’s jaw tightened.
In a rare move, he defended me:
“Apologies, Grandfather. Elena’s been busy

preparing your gift. She was exhausted, so I told her to come later.”
Time dragged on.
The celebration reached its peak–the gift–giving ceremony.
Still, I didn’t show.
A knot of unease twisted in Dylan’s chest.
Quietly, he slipped into a corner and dialed my number.
[The number you have dialed is unavailable…]
He called again.
Same cold, mechanical message.

Just then, a courier walked into the hall, carrying three packages.
All of them addressed from me.
The guests murmured among themselves.
The Old Alpha chuckled and opened the first gift.
Inside was a beautifully embroidered tapestry–The Oath of the Hundred Gods.
Every stitch painstakingly crafted, every thread soaked with months of my devotion.
The Old Alpha’s eyes misted over, his hands trembling slightly as he opened the second box.
Inside lay the Bloodline Pearl Set-

The sacred heirloom passed down from the Old Luna when I first became Dylan’s mate.
The hall plunged into a stunned silence.
Everyone knew exactly what that meant.
Returning a family relic was the same as publicly declaring the soul bond severed.
Before the Old Alpha could react, Dylan, his face darkening, stormed over and ripped open the third package himself.
Inside were two things-‘
A torn mate bond contract.
And a medical report.
Dylan froze.

A Divorce Pact?
I was severing our soul bond?
Impossible.
The Old Alpha snatched the report, glanced at it, and without hesitation slapped Dylan across the face.
“You bastard!” he roared.
“Look at what you’ve done! I should’ve never allowed you to mate with Elena! You’ve destroyed her, Dylan Blackwood!”
The Old Alpha staggered back, nearly collapsing.
Family members rushed to steady him.
Guests started making excuses to leave.

Dylan stood there in the center of it all, motionless, staring at the torn soul bond contract.
Finally, expressionless, he shredded the contract into tiny pieces.
Ignoring Sophia’s frantic sobbing behind him, he grabbed a set of car keys and stormed out, heading straight for the Silverstone estate.
When he arrived-
The house was dark.
Empty.
Silent.
He rolled down the window and

chain–smoked cigarette after cigarette until his throat burned raw.
He stayed there the whole night.
Waiting.
Waiting for a single light to flicker on.
It never did.
Five days after the disaster at the banquet, Dylan finally got the truth.
I was gone.
I had left the pack.
Why?
Was I really that desperate to get away from
him?

Sure, he’d made mistakes-
But what man hadn’t?
What gave me the right to leave like that-
No goodbye.
Just a shredded mate bond contract shoved in his face?
He couldn’t accept it.
He wouldn’t allow it.
As soon as he confirmed my location, Dylan booked the earliest flight out.
No packing.
No goodbyes.

He went straight from the Alpha’s office to the airport.
But just as he was about to board, Sophia showed up, tears streaming down her face.
“Alpha Dylan… are you really going to abandon me? Abandon our pup?”
Dylan’s gaze dropped to her slightly rounded belly.
He reached out and lightly patted her head.
“Aiden’s already arranged a new place for you. Move in today!”
