Chapter 6
For the first time, I saw real panic flash in Dylan’s eyes.
“Baby, how can you say shit like that?”
His voice was tight, his eyes desperate, swimming with fear.
“You expect me to believe that after nine years, all you feel for me is fucking gratitude? You really think I’m stupid enough to buy that pathetic lie?“,
Of course he wouldn’t believe it.
If I hadn’t loved him, why had I insisted on kissing him every morning?
Why had I broken down outside his surgery

room, sobbing and refusing to leave until he woke up?
I had loved him.
Desperately.
Everyone could see how much I loved Dylan.
Everyone–except him.
The more I gave, the harder he stomped all
over me.
He forgot that a heart wasn’t made of stone.
You wound it enough, even love turns cold. Turns numb.
Dylan’s lips twisted into something uglier than a cry, veins popping blood–red in his eyes.

“Elena… I swear, I didn’t know Sophia would hurt you like that. That night… I was drunk, that’s all it was. I only brought her back because I had to take responsibility. Once the pup’s born, I’ll send her away from the pack… Please. I’m begging you.”
I shook my head, my voice sharp and final.
“I don’t care about you and Sophia.
Just know this–I’ve already started over.
There’s no going back.
Not for either of us.
Leave.”
“Started over? You gotta be fucking kidding
me-!”

Before he could finish, he staggered.
Maybe it was the blood loss from the tattoo earlier.
His vision blurred, and he collapsed hard onto the floor.
At eleven that night, he woke up.
The glass of water by the bedside sparked a flicker of hope in him.
Even though he was too weak to stand, he gritted his teeth and dragged himself through the house, looking for me.
And then he found us.
On the rooftop, under the cold light of the moon, Lucas‘ fingers were tangled in my hair.

My head was tilted back slightly, my lips locked on his–slow, deep, burning.
A kiss that left no room for misinterpretation.
Dylan’s heart clenched in his chest like a vice.
He charged forward, grabbing Lucas by the collar and roaring,
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?!”
The mask was off now.
Lucas wasn’t just some childhood friend.
“Who gave you the right to touch my mate?!”
But Lucas just laughed–a low, cold sound that sent a chill down your spine.

“Your mate? Dylan, when’s the last time you actually treated her like one?”
“You-!”
Before Dylan could explode, Lucas‘ fist came out of nowhere, slamming into Dylan’s jaw with a sickening crack.
“Listen up, Dylan,” Lucas growled, casually wiping his knuckles on his jeans.
“If Elena weren’t so fucking soft–hearted, I would’ve thrown your sorry ass out already”
“She’s my fiancée now.
You lay a finger on her again, and I swear, you’ll wish you were never fucking born.”
Dylan froze, his fist half–raised, stunned.

He turned to me, dazed, like he couldn’t believe what he’d just heard.
“Tell me it’s not true…” he rasped, his voice broken and raw.
“Elena… it hasn’t even been a month… and you’re already pre–mated to someone else?”
I didn’t bother explaining.
The day I found out Sophia was pregnant, Lucas had proposed–across oceans, over a video call, on one knee,‘eyes red with emotion.
I hadn’t even hesitated.
I said yes.
And now?

I leaned lazily against Lucas‘ broad shoulder and murmured, almost mockingly,
“Yes”
Dylan’s face drained of all color, paler than the moonlight, a mix of terror and disbelief twisting his features.
“You’re insane!” he choked out, trembling.
“You’re still my mate! I never agreed to sever the bond! How could you
–?!”
His words cut off like a puppet with its strings ripped apart.
How could I?
I tilted my head, blinking slowly, a lazy, lethal smile curling my lips.

“What I do stopped being any of your fucking business a long time ago, Dylan Blackwood.”
“You seriously overestimated your place in my life.”
I took Lucas‘ hand, lacing our fingers tightly together, and delivered the final blow without a shred of hesitation:
“From this moment on,
you’re nothing to me.
We’re done.”
And with that, I turned and walked away, leaving Dylan standing there, hollow and broken under the silver wash of the moon.
Lucas and I walked on, side by side, fingers

still tightly intertwined, picking up our midnight conversation like nothing had happened.
That night, no one saw Dylan leave the estate.
And no one cared.
But he didn’t go back to Nightfall Pack.
Instead, he bought a penthouse near the vineyards and fell into a sad, pathetic routine
Managing Nightfall Pack remotely by day, and spending his afternoons camped outside the estate gates, sending flowers and gifts-
All the things he promised me for nine fucking years but never once delivered.

I didn’t engage.
But I didn’t go out of my way to avoid him either.
Nine years of humiliation had taught me one thing:
ever, ever rearrange your life for a man.
If I wanted to work, I worked.
If I wanted to socialize, I socialized.
The world was wide open, and my happiness came first.
As for Dylan?
I figured he was only hanging around because of the Old Alpha’s orders.

His grandfather had always liked me- probably forcing Dylan to try and win me back.
So I called the Old Alpha myself.
Told him flat–out:
I had a new mate.
A new life.
Keeping Dylan in Silver Moon Pack was a waste of time.
Even after that call, Dylan stayed outside the estate.
Day after day, just for a glimpse of me through the window of a passing car-

As if that could change a goddamn thing.
Until-
Lucas finally exploded.
