Chapter 5
Catherine paused for a moment, instinctively hung up the phone, and couldn’t help but sigh in her heart. Why do these people always like to suddenly speak up when standing behind others?
She turned around and immediately saw Dayton’s not–so–pleasant expression.
After a moment of contemplation, she finally spoke and explained, “It’s nothing, just that my former colleagues asked me what I planned to do after leaving the job, so I jokingly told them that I would go home and inherit the family fortune.”
Dayton furrowed her brow, she clearly wasn’t someone who loved to joke.
He subconsciously felt that something was not right. Just as he was about to speak, Catherine took several steps forward and turned back to call him, “Aren’t you coming? There are still a few pieces of jewelry collection that haven’t been displayed yet.”
Upon hearing this, Dayton thought she wanted to buy some jewelry, so he nodded and followed her.
After returning to the auction venue, Dayton bid high on the next few jewelry items and successfully won them. He had them carefully packaged and delivered to Catherine.
Catherine looked at the box in her hand and whispered, “I didn’t wear these jewels.”
Dayton smiled and rubbed her head, “In the future, you will adapt more, don’t be afraid of wasting money, I will buy you diamonds for a lifetime.”
She moved her lips, but in the end, she didn’t say the remaining words.
She did not wear these millions worth of jewelry.
Each of her jewelry pieces cost billions.

The auction has ended, and people on the field have started to leave one by one. Dayton and Catherine’s group also did not stay for long.
Everyone drove their own cars and originally just needed to go back to their own homes. But just as they got into their cars and before the cars even started, Jaelyn knocked on the passenger window. The window slowly rolled down, revealing her shy face, and her voice was just as sweet and gentle, completely different from her sarcastic and mean demeanor towards Catherine in the restroom earlier.
“Dayton, my car broke down. Can you give me a ride home?”
Dayton frowned and was about to refuse, but she said again, “Your parents said to take care of me, didn’t you forget?”
Dayton, without knowing what to think, had a slightly gloomy expression, but in the end, he agreed to it.
Seeing him nod directly, her smile became more obvious. Then she looked at Catherine more presumptuously and said, “But I get motion sickness and can’t sit in the back seat, what should I do?”
Dayton looked at Catherine, but before he could say anything, she had already opened the car door and gotten out, smoothly transitioning to the back seat. Her movements were so swift that Dayton hadn’t even had time to react before she had already settled in the back seat.
His words were immediately stuck in his throat, making him feel extremely uncomfortable.
He hesitated to speak, wanting to say that it was just a seat and not worth worrying about. As his gaze shifted to the back seat through the rearview mirror, she had already closed her eyes, looking like she wanted to rest.
Just at that moment, Jaelyn had also gotten on the car. As the door closed, she saw her in the back seat, with her eyes closed, resting. A smug smile crept up on her lips.
Catherine, even if the person he likes now is still you, so what? The things I want will eventually end up in my hands, and getting his heart is just a
matter of time.
With this thought, her mood suddenly improved, her voice becoming sweet and soft. Looking at Dayton, her eyes were filled with shyness and timidity. “Is Ms. Maldonado tired? Then let her rest for a while.”
Perhaps noticing Catherine’s abnormality, Dayton didn’t talk much to Jaelyn either. He just nodded and silently started the car.
Catherine didn’t know when she actually fell asleep, and when she woke up again, the car had already stopped in the garage of the Franco’s villa, and Jaelyn was no longer in the car.
Dayton touched her face and said, “Awake? I didn’t have the heart to wake you up because you were sleeping so soundly.”
She was still a bit groggy, nodded and opened the car door, and without waiting for Dayton, she walked straight towards the gate.
When Dayton got off the car, she had already reached the door. He caught up with her in a few steps and blocked her at the door, “Are you angry? Jaelyn is

just a friend of the family, don’t mind it.”
She nodded.
Dayton thought she was still angry, so he reached out and held her, helplessly whispering, “She’s really just a friend’s daughter, sweetheart, I only love you, you know.”
After speaking, he caught a whiff of the rose fragrance on her body and realized that it had been a while since he had been intimate with Catherine. His Adam’s apple moved slightly as he lowered his head, preparing to kiss her, but she pushed him away.
Watching his surprised expression, Catherine entered the room directly.
“I was on my period and feeling uncomfortable, so I rested in my room first.”
After saying that, she immediately locked the door, completely cutting off Dayton’s chance to come in.
The next morning, in the first–floor restaurant, Catherine was having breakfast with Dayton when her phone, which she had placed aside, suddenly rang.
It was the timed alarm clock she set a while ago, with a note saying “Parent–Teacher Meeting Day.”
Dayton also saw the words.
Before, she had planned to confess her identity to him, so she brought up the idea of him going home to meet her parents, and he agreed as well.
The two people exchanged a glance, and Catherine was thinking about how to cancel the meeting. The next second, his phone also rang. It was Jaelyn’s phone.
He didn’t know what he said, his expression changed slightly, and when he approached her again, he apologetically declined the meeting. “Catherine, this time I suddenly had something to attend to, can we meet your parents next time?”
