Chapter 21
Jasmine rejected calvin’s request for her to visit Amelia without hesitation, which entaged him. He rubbed his temples in frustration and frowned.
He said, “I can understand that you’re angry with me and want a divorce. But my mother has always been kind to you and sees you as her own daughter. Don’t you think you should show her some gratitude? How can you be so heartless?”
Amelia had become even more difficult to please after she became sick. Nothing the housekeepers made could satisfy her. The only food she ever seemed to enjoy was Jasmine’s cooling
calvin had a lot on his plate between running the company and caring for his mother. He simply couldn’t do it. As such, he was trying to convince Jasmine to take care of Amelia again.
In Jasmine’s opinion, his words were beyond absurd.
“Calvin, I entered the Ford family under an agreement. I played the role of the good daughter–in–law, cared for you and your mother, all because it was my job. But that’s over now, and I don’t want anything more to do with your family.
“You say your mother treated me well as though I were her own daughter? That’s Ilarious! Just look at how differently she treats me and Sonia. That alone should tell you whether your claim holds any truth! Would she ever make Sonla slave over chores or strip away sonia’s freedom and keep her trapped at home?
“You claim that she was nice to me. Then tell me exactly what did Amelia do that you think counts as kindness?”
calvin had no comeback to that.
He used to believe that Amelia was different from the typical demanding socialite mother–in–law, as she always smiled warmly at Jasmine. He thought she was the idadest, most loving mother–in–law, and Jasmine was blessed to marry into his family.
But when he tried to name even one moment that proved his mother’s kindness, his mind came up empty.
Jasmine chuckled mockingly at his silence. “Do you have nothing to say, Mr. Ford? Well, I guess I’ll take my leave now.”
However, Calvin wasn’t willing to let her go. “Even though my mother didn’t do much for you, you still lived with us for three years. Doesn’t that count for anything? Don’t you have any loyalty to my family?”
“Loyalty? Those thier years with your family were just part of a deal What loyalty could there possibly be in a business deal?” she sneered.
Her coldness struck him like a blow in the chest, and he suddenly found it hard to breathe, as it his heart had been squeezed tight.
With no intention of arguing further, she turned and walked away.
Josh drove her home. When he saw her pale expression, he asked, “Are you play?”
www
“I’m fine,” Jasmine answered. She seemed exhausted. She couldn’t understand why Calvin kept pestering her even after malding herself perfectly clear Joshua glanced at her with concem in his eyes.
When Jasmine noticed that he was silent, she suddenly asked, “Do you want to know what happened between me and Calvin?”
He shook his head. “If you don’t want to discuss it, I won’t ask. When you’re ready, you can tell me.”
Although he was curious about their relationship, he still respected her privacy. If she didn’t want to share, he wouldn’t push her. His tesponse made her feel unexpectedly moved
Joshua may seem calm and cold, but jasmine found him reliable and considerate.
Soon, the day of the Zeller taquily’s banquet arrived.
Jasmine wote a custom designer gown gifted by josta and sloy,
herself with jewels worth the price of a house. Yet, all that luxury only heightened her andety
“Is this too much?” she asked, worried that slur might upstage the hosts.
Even though she didn’t like olivia, she didn’t want to cause a scene at an event like this, especially not at the expense of joshua’s reputation.
He placed her hand gently on his arm and smiled. “You look perfect. The dress and jewelry suit you, just relax and enjoy the evening ”
With joslu’s ieassurance, she slowly began to feel more at ease.
just then, he received a message from Hayden. Hemed to Jasmine and said, “I’m going to greet se people I know. Wait here for me, okay?
