Atter a long pause, Aidan let out a sneer. “No way, Clara’s sweet and affectionate and she takes the initiative. Unlike Cassandra, who acts like a nun. She’s so uptight it’s nauseating.”
Lucas didn’t respond. He knew it was pointless to argue now. Aidan was beyond reasoning. It was better to let reality teach him a lesson.
Right now, Aidan was completely out of his mind. His ego was sky–high. He had always seen himself as someone special.
Therefore, deep down, he never really respected Cassandra. He thought she needed him to survive.
Upon seeing how firm Cassandra was this time, how completely she cut things off, Aidan was pissed. So the next day, he wired the money to her.
When Cassandra saw the bank notification, she froze for a moment. This was the price of her youth. She stared at the string of numbers on her screen, feeling a mix of emotions she couldn’t even name.
It was finally settled. It was a clean break. Now, she could start over.
Cassandra began preparing her resume. She was also waiting for the results of the competition. The results of the preliminary round should be out soon.
Now that she had some time to herself, she decided to head out and buy groceries. She wanted to cook a nice dinner tonight. She had been so busy lately that she hadn’t had time to take care of herself at all.
She threw on something casual and stepped out. The supermarket wasn’t far, so she decided to walk. There was a pleasant breeze along the way, and she actually felt pretty good.
When she reached the intersection across from the supermarket, out of nowhere, a beat–up van came speeding straight toward her. Cassandra was startled. Before she could even react, the van screeched to a stop.
Two masked men jumped out lightning fast. One of them clamped a cloth over her mouth, and the two dragged her into the van with terrifying efficiency.
In an instant, the van peeled away. Terror flooded Cassandra’s mind. She fought as hard as she could, but the strength difference was overwhelming.
The chemical smell on the cloth hit her fast. Her vision started to blur, her limbs grew weak, and her body went limp. Just before she completely blacked out, one thought flashed through her mind–would Tristan find out something happened to her?
