Chapter 10
Hector, Lindsey, and Micah sat in an expensive restaurant. An elegant piano and cello melody surrounded them, and exquisite dishes were brought to
their table.
“Wow! You’re so generous, Mr. Yarrow!” Micah leaned close to Hector ingratiatingly, wanting to receive an indulgent smile from him as always.
“Uh–huh.” Hector merely nodded before looking out the window.
Micah looked at Lindsey helplessly. She cleared her throat, pulling Hector’s attention back to her.
She wore a white dress, and her gaze was concerned as she looked at Hector. “What’s wrong, Hector? You’ve been distracted the whole night.”
“Nothing.” He pinched his nose bridge. “Noelle’s just kicking up a fuss again. She has run away from home this time.”
Lindsey frowned slightly, and a hint of hatred flashed in her eyes. Then, she smiled sweetly. “Don’t worry about her. Women are all like that.”
His gaze softened, and he pulled out a velvet box from his pocket. He opened it to reveal an expensive pearl necklace.
“Hector!” Lindsey clapped a hand over her mouth in surprise. He got up and stood behind her so he could put it on for her.
“It suits you.” He smiled dotingly as he subtly traced a finger along the back of her neck.
“Hector, you’re so naughty!” she chided while grabbing his hand.
Micah watched them. “Mr. Yarrow, are you going to be my daddy?”
Lindsey blushed. Hector slipped his fingers between hers. He was about to answer when he suddenly thought of how Ian always looked up at him. He pursed his lips and smiled without answering.
For some reason, he couldn’t help feeling uneasy when he thought about how Noelle had said forever.
No, it couldn’t be. He pushed his uneasiness away. Noelle and Ian loved him desperately–everyone knew it! There was no way they would leave him!
Hector soon composed himself. He had no idea Lindsey had already captured the slight change in his emotions. He said, “Lindsey, you guys wait here for me. I need to head to the restroom.”
Lindsey clenched her fists where they rested on her lap. Still, she smiled gracefully and said, “Go on. I’ll watch Micah.”
Hector washed his face. The water droplets trickled down his hair and landed on his long lashes, making his chiseled face even more handsome and charming than usual.
“Why do I keep thinking of her today?” He looked at his reflection to see a man with furrowed brows and a displeased look on his face.
“She’s probably done with her fuss and should’ve gone home by now. I’ll head home to spend some time with her tonight.” He wiped the water from his hands with a silk handkerchief as he imagined how delighted Noelle and Ian would be to see him home. Even he didn’t notice the small smile that played on his lips.
Hector left the restroom and silently approached Lindsey from behind. He was about to speak when he saw her pinch Micah’s arm. She snarled, “Why the hell did you say that to Hector just now? I never taught you that!”
Micah sounded like he was going to cry. “I’m sorry, Mommy. I won’t do it again.‘
”
“You’re going to starve if I fail to win Hector’s heart!” she growled.
“Lindsey,” Hector suddenly said. Micah heard him and hastily pulled down his sleeve to cover the bruise Lindsey had left.
“Hector, when did you get back?” Lindsey looked flustered.
Hector suppressed his emotions and said calmly, “A few seconds ago.”
“Oh, okay.” Lindsey nodded, looking relieved.
“I need to head home early tonight. I’ll have my driver drop you and Micah home.” Hector took his coat and was about to put it on when Micah threw himself at him and hugged him.
“Can you not go, Mr. Yarrow?” Micah looked up at him. “I want you to come play with me at my house.”
“Hector, is there anything urgent?” Lindsey asked. “Come and rest at my place for a while.”
Hector nodded in agreement when he saw how earnestly they wanted him to be with them.
“Yay!” Micah made a peace sign at Lindsey. Hector couldn’t help smiling when he saw how cute they were together. Noelle and lan could wait until
tomorrow.
Hector held Lindsey’s hand, and they left with Micah. The night scenery slipped past them outside the car’s window, and they soon arrived at Sutton Manor.
