Chapter 13
“Mr. Yarrow, here are the results of what you asked a private investigator to look into.” Hector’s assistant, Andrew Quill, held out a thick envelope.
Hector took it and waved a hand, dismissing him.
“Yes, sir.” Andrew shut the door after backing out of the room.
Only then did Hector open the envelope and pull out the thick stack of papers inside. The more he read, the more stunned he was. His eyes widened, and his fingers started trembling.
The results of the investigation clearly stated that Micah’s blood count report and bone marrow test results were both forged!
Hector’s blood boiled. He refused to believe this–Lindsey was his beloved, and they’d grown up together. She was the purest woman in the world!
Yet the investigation’s results had all the proof he needed—the hospital’s surveillance footage, payment records between Lindsey and the hospital’s staff, the bone marrow database access logs… Everything came together to prove that whatever Lindsey had shown him had been forged! “Lindsey Sutton!” he snarled. He bit his lip hard as the rage of being lied to and manipulated made him lose his rationality. “Find out where she is right
now!”
“Ms. Sutton is at a private spa, sir. I’ve already sent the location to your phone.”
Hector grabbed his keys and stormed out, looking murderous. He drove straight to the spa and made a beeline for a private room on the top floor. He was about to barge inside when he heard the conversation within.
“Wait, you really told Micah to ram into them? That was so bold of you!” Lindsey’s best friend sounded amused.
“Mommy didn’t tell me to do it. I thought of it myself!” Micah said happily.
Lindsey laughed lazily. “He did well. At least he finally chased Noelle off.”
“Mommy rewarded me with so many toys!” Micah seemed excited to do it again. “I’ll ram into those pieces of trash again if they dare show up!”
“You’re truly good at this, Lindsey,” the friend said in admiration.
“This is nothing. I was going to have the abductors kill Noelle and her brat.” Lindsey snorted. “Who would’ve thought they’d be lucky enough to make it out alive?”
Hector’s hand froze on the doorknob.
Lindsey continued smugly, “Anyway, it was thanks to that incident that I realized Hector only has eyes for me. Back then, when my ex–husband’s company made a huge fortune, I figured I’d just make up some excuse to dump Hector and move abroad. Think about how nice that would’ve been!
“Who would’ve known that bastard would die so soon? I didn’t even get that much of his money. That’s why I came back with Micah. Surprisingly, Hector turned out to still have some use.

“You’re lucky, you know. So many men are chasing after you.”
”
“Of course. Hector and my ex weren’t the only ones I had wrapped around my finger–I was leading another rich guy on. The only issue was that he still had to rely on his family. His money never would’ve ended up in my hands,” Lindsey said.
that her perfe
She suddenly laughed nastily and lowered her voice. “You don’t know this, but Hector is so madly in love with me that he donated his own son’s bone marrow to Micah! The funniest part is that he has no idea I bribed the hospital’s staff to forge Micah’s medical reports–Noelle was even forced to donate her blood until she blacked out!”
Micah burst into laughter. “I’ll do this for Mommy again if I need to! All I needed to do was lie down and go to sleep. Mr. Yarrow gave me so many presents after I woke up!”
Their conversation stabbed Hector like poisoned blades, contorting the images of the naive Lindsey and obedient Micah in his memories.
He shuddered, making the doorknob rattle as his hand rested on it.
Silence descended upon the private room. Then, Lindsey asked, “Who’s out there?”
Hector shut his eyes and hurried off. He got into the car and smoked cigarette after cigarette as he thought about what Lindsey had said.
She hadn’t broken up with him back then out of anger–she’d just made an excuse to dump him so she could marry someone richer than him.
Micah’s leukemia was a lie–she’d cooked it up to win more of Hector’s concern and money
Noelle hadn’t caused the accident at the go–kart arena. In truth, Micah had injured Noelle and lan with Lindsey’s tacit permission.
The abduction had also been genuine, and Lindsey was the one who’d orchestrated it. She’d wanted to get rid of Noelle and lan so that she and Micah could take over. Fortunately, Noelle and lan had survived the ordeal….
Hector also thought about how Noelle and Ian looked when they smiled at him. He tried to remember the time they’d spent together, but there was barely anything to recall.
It turned out that the woman he’d longed for over the years was actually so nasty. Noelle and Tan, whom he’d neglected, misunderstood, and hurt. They were the true victims in this, yet they were also the only ones who truly loved him.
His cigarette burned his fingers, but he didn’t feel it.
“Why?” he roared as he slammed a fist on the steering wheel.
He’d loved the wrong people this whole time.
