I listened to him explain, but quickly realized that he didn’t bring up a single word about the traitor.
Emily covered her mouth, feigning surprise, “A deal? Why didn’t I know about it?”
She seemed to want Cyrus to elaborate more, but Cyrus cut the conversation short, not wanting to continue.
“Have some rest. Marina’s not doing well, so I need to go take care of her. Sleep by yourself tonight.”
He’d never acted so coldly toward Emily before, so I was quite shocked, to be honest.
After Cyrus left the room, Emily’s expression twisted, and she smashed everything on the table to bits.
Meanwhile, Cyrus had gathered all the mages in the pack to discuss how to resurrect me.
Naturally, this earned him many strange looks from the mages, and they looked at each other dubiously, knowing that I was far beyond saving.
One mage who was more straightforward with his words spoke, “Alpha King, you should know that death is an irreversible journey. Marina’s mermaid pearl is almost fully seafoam, so there is no way to resurrect her. At this point, it would be simpler to find her a place to rest…”
Bam!
Not able to control his emotions, Cyrus punched the mage to the ground.
“Useless! All of you! I didn’t spend so much money hiring you to hear you blabber excuses! If you can’t cure Marina, then you will be laid to rest with her!”
The mages wanted to speak up in resistance, but cowered at the sight of Cyrus‘ sharp claws.
Seeing that bloodshed was about to break out, Cyrus‘ Beta stood in front of him and spoke his mind.
“Alpha King! What’s the use of doing all this after all this time? You’re the one who tortured Marina for all these years, and the source of all her pain! What’s the point of making yourself look like a heartbroken fool now, when she’s already gone?!”
Finally, someone put to words what had been bothering me during this entire exchange.
Cyrus treated me like the dirt under his feet while I was still alive, yet acted repentant after I was dead.
What was the point?
I didn’t want this love that came too late.
Hearing the Beta’s words, Cyrus stormed out the door in a useless fit of rage, and the entire pack was thrown into chaos.
It was night, and things had finally quieted down.
While everyone was too preoccupied with what had happened, Emily sneaked into the research lab, holding a silver dagger tightly in her hand.
Seeing me, she smirked, her red lips glinting like blood.
“It’s alright, Marina. Let me end your life for you.”
