Chapter 24
At right. I’m an my way.” Sebastian said as he hung up. His usually sharp, handsome features looked a little grim
What the hell was Xavier thinking, tallding to his mother like that?
All it was going to do was push Julia even further away.
Sebastian rubbed his temples,
Instrated.
“Mr. Holt, did you find Kar?” Penelope cane rushing into the foyer, eyes reddened and misty like she’d been crying
She’d been so close to calling the police. It something had happened to Xavier on her watch, she could forget ever setting foot in the Halt residence again,
“Yeah. He’s with Julia,” Sebastian said Barly, already tuming toward the door to head for the car.
He didn’t notice the flash of malice in Penelope’s eyes as he walked past her.
Her nails dug into her palm, anger glaring behind her tear–streaked face. She’d been worried sick, and that little brat had snuck off to find jul
What was it people always said? Blood was thicker than water?
Penelope didn’t hesitate–she opened the passenger door and got in.
Sebastian shot her a surprised look, but Penelope just sniffled, her voice shaky. “I won’t feel at ease until I see with my own eyes that Xay’s okay.”
Sebastian didn’t say anything more. He just stepped on the gas.
Penelope wiped her tears again, finally settling down, though the resentment and jealousy burning inside her were stronger
She’d waited so long for this. Finally, Julia had been stupid enough to push for a divorce and even take it to court.
If Xavier’s little meltdown ended up bringing Julia and Sebastian back together.…
No, absolutely not. She wouldn’t let that happen.
Her fingers clenched tightly into fists, but Sebastian just assumed she was still worried about the child.
“Xan’s with his mom now. He’s fine,” Sebastian said.
“That’s good. That’s really good. I guess be just missed Jules,” Penelope said, eyes flickering.
Then, testing the waters, she added, “Mr. Holt, maybe you should let Xaw stay with Jules a few more days. No need to rush in and take him back right pway, is therei
She hadn’t been far from Sebastian earlier and had heard Julia telling him to come pick up Xavier.
Sebastian hadn’t reacted much.
Penelope glanced at his expression and, playing innocent, said softly, “Jules is really something. Xay’s still so little, how could a mother stay med at her child like that?”
“It’s just a fight. They’re upset in the moment,” Sebastian replied sharply, his brows furrowing as he shot her a cold glance
His fingers twitched slightly on the steering wheel before settling again.
That was a clear sign he was annoyed.
Penelope immediately swallowed the rest of what she’d bean about to say. Sebastian’s expression had gone even colder.
She clenched her fists, then forced a strained smile. “Right, Jules does love Xar very much.”
The car fell into silence. Before long, they pulled up in front of The One Design building
When Sebastian arrived, the sound of crashing and smashing echoed from inside the office.
He froze for a split second, then shoved the door open hard.
The moment it swung wide, he saw Xavier grabbing something off the desk and hurling it straight at Julia
The glass picture frame shattered into pieces across the floor.
Penelope had just reached the doorway and saw it too, watched as Xavier’s throw left blood running down from Julia’s head
For a moment, surprise flickered in her eyes, then quieldy turned into si
something much darker.
So, Xavier hadn’t come to make up with Julie after all.
All that stress she’d felt along the way finally melted away. If anything, she hoped this would be the moment that split mother and son for good.
Julle!” Sebastian rushed forward, heart in his throat, as he caught her in his arms. “Are you. Are you okay?”
Bright red blood trickled from the side of Julia’s head, the sight of it enough to make anyone’s heart race.
H
“Kavior!” Sebastian turned toward his son, fury ripping through his voice…
His mar was so sharp, so raw, it made Xavier flinch where he stood
Shaken, Xavier broke into loud sobs, pointing toward Julia. His voice sounded full of tears and hurt as he stammered, “L… I didn’t mean to! She’s the one who didn’t want the first”
