Estelle turned around and glared angrily at Asher. “Mr. Daye, it’s my freedom to choose wherever I want to go. You have no right to tell me where to go or what to do. Now, please, let go of me.”
“You’re right,” Asher said. However, he refused to let go of her and tightened his grip even more. “However, because you faked your death, Ruben has been making a huge fuss about killing himself. And after guessing that you were still alive, he traveled the whole world trying to track you down.
“His emotions keep fluctuating, and they’re all over the place. He’s on the brink of insanity. Don’t you think you should go back with me to see him so that we can finally settle him down?”
Estelle went silent for a long while when she heard this. Finally, she said, “There’s no need for me to meet him anymore. We’re nothing but strangers
now.”
Asher frowned. “Yes, Ruben cheated on you, and it’s all his fault for that. You could have divorced him. Why didn’t you just sit down and have a proper conversation with him? Why must you keep trying to run away?”
“I know I’m running away, but it’s because I have no other choice. Who would want to give up everything they had and hide away from the world if they weren’t forced into a corner? I chose this way out not just to get revenge on him but also because I didn’t want him to continue bothering me.”
Estelle sighed softly and continued, “You don’t understand him at all. He would never grant me the divorce. He would never let me go. He would do crazy things instead. If you’re really doing this for him, then don’t tell him that you’ve seen me.”
Asher shook his head. “Sorry, but I can’t do that. You have to come back with me.”
Estelle smiled coldly. “Okay. If you insist on bringing me back, you’ll only bring a cold corpse back with you.”
“You…” Asher was shocked and instinctively released her.
Estelle grabbed the opportunity and fled the next second.
She and Cassie bought overnight tickets to a random foreign country. However, just as they’d settled down on the second day, Estelle opened the door and found two rows of bodyguards neatly lined up at the front door.
She watched helplessly as Asher got down from his luxury car and asked, “What is it that you want?”
“I’m here to give you an offer. A fair exchange, I must say. I want you to stay within my sight, and in return, I will release to you all of the core technologies under the tech companies I own.”
He had been researching Estelle for the past few days and knew that she was deeply interested in the science and technology field. So, he was sure that she wouldn’t be able to back down from his offer.
As long as she was willing to stay put, he would somehow be able to convince her to see Ruben again.
“Of course, you can refuse, but no matter where you go, I will still have my people shadowing and following you around. In comparison, I think that it’s better if you just agreed to take up my offer.”
Estelle cursed and called him all sorts of names in her heart. However, since there was no other choice for her, she could only agree to his conditions. Asher bought her a mansion near his company’s headquarters. “It’s closer to the company here, so it’ll be more convenient for you.”
After leaving, Cassie groaned and kept smacking herself on the head. “What kind of a sick joke is fate playing on us? Why does it feel like we just jumped írom the pan into the fire?
“If I’d known earlier that Asher was Ruben’s uncle, I’d never have tried collaborating with him in the first place. I’d rather have given the products to someone else! I’m so sorry, Estelle.”
“It’s not your fault,” Estelle said, hugging Cassie. It was such a big world, after all, and nobody would have thought that they would coincidentally end up going to Asher’s company for the collaboration.
Estelle gradually settled down in the mansion for the time being. During the day, she would report to work at Asher’s company to learn, and at night, she would invent her own products at home.
Asher would always drop by every few days, trying to convince her to meet up with Ruben each time.
Today, after coming back from the company, she saw Asher sitting on the living room couch again. But this time, Ruben was sitting right next to him
with a face full of excitement.
