Chapter 13
Ruben’s face had drained of all its color. “You… Estelle… Don’t talk nonsense like that…”
“What, you don’t believe me?” Estelle asked. “Asher is a wealthy and successful businessman, and he’s also quite good–looking. Most importantly, he is still clean and pure, so what’s so surprising about me liking him?”
Estelle grinned and pulled Asher’s tie again.

Asher’s icy expression finally showed some slight cracks. He immediately took a few huge steps backward, flustered and fuming.
Estelle just walked over to him and grabbed him by his belt instead.
Although she was smiling brightly at him, she hated his guts with all of her might. Had it not been for him, Ruben would never have found her, and her calm and peaceful life would not have been turned into chaos either.
Asher had caused so much trouble for her. So, of course, she had to reciprocate his generosity as well.
She leaned forward and kissed Asher’s on his Adam’s apple. “Say, Ashy, what kind of perfume are you using? It smells so good on you…”
Asher had never been this close with the opposite gender before, and he certainly never dreamed that he would be forcibly kissed twice in succession by his niece–in–law–twice.
He immediately pushed her off. “You!”
However, he just kept stammering, unable to form any sentence after that. The frustration was all bottled up in his chest, and he had no way to let them out. In the end, he just turned on his heels and left, slamming the door shut behind him.
Estelle grinned and asked Ruben, “So, want me to continue proving it to you?”
Ruben fell to the ground on his butt, his face still as pale as ever. He knew what she was thinking as soon as he looked into her eyes.
He knew that she was just trying to rile him up on purpose. She just wanted him to give up on her. However, the pain he felt in his chest while watching her kiss another man was just inexplicable. It hurt so much that he couldn’t even breathe.
Ruben suddenly thought of something. Estelle must have felt the same pain at least a hundredfold or a thousandfold when she found out about his affair and watched him doing the nasty with Louisa in those filthy videos.
He closed his eyes as tears flowed down from the corners of his closed eyes. He was at the point of no return, but nobody except himself was to blame. The next morning, Estelle went to Asher’s office headquarters as usual. She bumped into Asher at the elevators.
Asher’s face turned multiple shades of colors when he caught sight of her. A few seconds later, however, a stoic look appeared on his face as he stormed over to the emergency staircase instead.
Finally, 20 minutes later, even Asher’s assistant, Barbara Kipling, was cursing him out in her heart. Her boss had to be out of his mind–who on earth would choose to take 20 flights of stairs if there was an elevator available? Climbing 20 floors was no joke. She felt like she was about to die from exhaustion.
That night, Estelle went back to the mansion and found that the entire place smelled delicious.
She thought that Cassie had been cooking. However, a split second later, Ruben came out of the kitchen in an apron as he brought out an array of dishes. “You’re back? That’s good. Dinner’s ready. Go wash your hands and come have dinner.”
Estelie stared at the steam rising from the dishes and couldn’t help zoning out for a while.
This was a familiar scene that had happened many, many times over the past three years. No matter how busy Ruben was, he always made sure to get home before she did so that he could start on dinner. Estelle would then come home to delicious food and a big hug from Ruben.
She used to think that the scene was the epitome of her happiness.
That used to mean peak happiness to her, but now, after going through so many things, everything had changed.
Estelle took the dishes from the table and dumped them all into the trash. “I told you very clearly yesterday to stop it with these pointless gestures.” Ruben’s face paled. His smile also froze on his face. However, seconds later, he smiled again and said, “You don’t like these, do you? It’s okay. I’ll cook
again.”
Estelle’s expression was cold and frustrated. “Ruben Daye, do you want me to repeat everything I said yesterday?”
“You can repeat it however many times you want,” he replied, picking up the empty dish and walking back into the kitchen calmly. “But I won’t listen to
a word of it, and I will never leave you. I won’t ever give up on you. I will stay here and take care of you from today onward.”
He was going to do this until she finally forgave him or until he breathed his last breath.
