Chapter 16
Ever since the last time Louisa had been nearly choked to death by Ruben, the both of them had become sworn enemies.
Ruben froze Louisa’s cards and took back all 26 companies, five manors, six mansions, and all other assets. He’d even forced her to return every single piece of jewelry he had ever given her.
In the blink of an eye, Louisa lost all of her riches and turned into a poor beggar with debts on her shoulders. She just couldn’t accept it, especially since she still had to care for her twins.
She tried asking Ruben’s parents for help, crying and sobbing as she begged them because she wouldn’t be able to raise her kids otherwise. Since Ruben’s parents felt sorry for their grandkids, they called him up to try to patch things up between them.
“Şay, weren’t you still doing fine with Louisa a few days ago? How could you treat her like this now? That Estelle’s already dead! Are you going to abandon your own children for a dead woman? They’re your blood and flesh, for goodness‘ sake!
“It had been wrong for Louisa to provoke Estelle back then, but she’s still a woman after all, and what kind of woman would ever accept being a mistress for the rest of her life? She was just trying to look out for her own interest. It’s understandable and justifiable.”
Back then, Ruben had been worried sick trying to locate Estelle’s whereabouts. When he heard what Molly said, he just replied, “Mom, if you take in Louisa and the twins, then I’m going to sever all ties with you. If you still want me as your son, then kick those three out of the door at once!”
Molly thought that Ruben was just saying that because he was too emotional, thinking that he wouldn’t really follow through. So, she took Louisa in.
However, the next day, Ruben called the media and announced that he was cutting off all ties with the Daye family and that he was on his way back home to proceed with all the legalities.
Molly had had such a fright that she got a heart attack. As soon as she recovered, she immediately kicked Louisa and the twins out of her house. She didn’t dare to go anywhere near them anymore.
While it was true that she felt sorry for her grandchildren, Ruben was still her own son after all, and he only mattered the most to her.
With that, Louisa completely lost all support, whether financial or emotional, and her days were hard and penniless.
This time, she’d finally managed to hear about Ruben’s whereabouts and did all she could to get here as quickly as possible, sparing no change.
She believed that Ruben would go easy on her if only he’d just see her. She thought that all she needed to do was to beg and plead with him—she didn’t need him to give her the same riches she used to have, but at the very least, she wanted and needed his protection for the rest of her life.
Where else was she supposed to get the money to care for her kids anyway?
“Ruben! You can’t be so heartless! Look at your kids! They’re so scrawny it’s heartbreaking! You’re their father! Are you really going to ignore them? Are you really not going to care about them anymore?”
Louisa cried pitifully and said, “Our kids can already call us ‘papa’ and ‘mama‘.‘
Estelle chuckled out loud. Everything was just so ridiculous to her.
Meanwhile, Ruben’s face was as dark as thunder.
He called for security and had them escort Louisa out. However, Louisa kept holding on to his leg and refused to let go. She kept crying and saying that her children couldn’t grow up without a father. She also begged Ruben to be more lenient and less heartless with her since they used to sleep together.
Honestly, even Asher was getting mad as he watched the scene unfold. What kind of soap opera drama was this–that the mistress would confront the man with her kids in tow, right under the wife’s nose?
He subconsciously glanced at Estelle.
However, Estelle was watching everything unfold with interested eyes. She was even slowly peeling some fruit as she watched the drama.
Although Asher had spent many of his years working abroad, he’d long heard about Estelle’s relationship with Ruben. He’d even come across their lovey- dovey videos on social media at times.
At that time, Estelle’s eyes for Ruben had been full of love and adoration. She would get jealous if Ruben even dared to glance at another woman while she was there.
But now, it was not the same anymore. Estelle’s eyes were filled with nothing but cold acceptance. It was as if she was just watching a stranger.
How many times did she have to have been let down by Ruben that she would have such a drastic change in her attitude, as if she was a whole other person altogether?
Asher lowered his head and felt a little guilty for the first time. Had he made the wrong move telling Ruben where Estelle was hiding after all?
