Chapter 12
Damien belatedly felt some regret. If he hadn’t sought excitement and looked for another woman, would none of this have happened?
Even so, all the men in their circle were like this. They’d have one at home and one outside, some even with several on the side. There were plenty of men who played around more than he did.
Ophelia was gentle and understanding too, so why couldn’t Celeste just accept her? Damien felt confused and puzzled.
He didn’t sleep a wink all night. An indescribable anxiety and restlessness in his heart constantly urged him to go faster. He needed to find Celeste quickly, or he would regret it for the rest of his life.
The people he had sent out to investigate worked for a long time before finally bringing back news. Taylor placed a stack of documents and a USB drive in front of Damien.
“Mr. Ashford, we found her. Your wife… Ms. Wilde took the divorce agreement you signed when you got married to a lawyer, and now your divorce has been automatically finalized.
“Also, she and her parents have all had their identities erased and left. We only know they bought plane tickets to Carvonia, but their whereabouts after that are unknown.”
Taylor’s voice grew weaker and weaker, wishing he could bury his head in the ground to avoid meeting Damien’s deadly gaze. After he finished speaking, the entire room fell into deathly silence. It was terrifyingly quiet.
JOnly at this moment did Damien belatedly remember that early in their marriage, he had secretly signed a divorce agreement behind Celeste’s back to
reassure Thomas and Eleanor.
He had initially thought this agreement would never be needed and had completely forgotten about it. He never expected that one day, Celeste would actually use it to leave him!
Damien’s face showed no expression, but his hand gripping the stack of documents kept tightening, crumpling the papers into a ball. Burning fury accumulated in his deep, profound eyes, like he was about to explode.
He forcibly suppressed it, torturing himself as he flipped through the documents in his hand. The texts and photos detailed everything Celeste had done during this time. She was truly determined to leave him.
Even so, Damien couldn’t accept it!
“Search to the ends of the earth if you have to, but find her! You must find Celeste!”
Damien’s chest heaved with rage as he threw the documents heavily onto the desk.
Taylor was perplexed. “Mr. Ashford, you don’t love Ms. Wilde like you used to. Wouldn’t divorcing her be a good thing? Why are you so obsessed with not letting go?
“Ms. Wilde will never accept Ms. Hart, and she’ll never accept you having other women. Even if you force her to stay by your side, it will only hurt you both. Besides, Ms. Hart isn’t as gentle and understanding as you think.
“The USB contains evidence we found of Ms. Hart deliberately framing Ms. Wilde. You should take a look.”
Upon hearing this, Damien’s expression instantly darkened. Ophelia suddenly burst in as he was hesitating whether to investigate the contents of the USB drive.
“Damien, did Ms. Wilde have people badmouth me again? She truly hates me! It seems like she wants to drive me away forcefully.
“I wanted to stay by your side for the rest of my life, but she… she’s forcing me to go. Maybe I should just leave you.”
She sobbed, covering her face and wiping her tears as she ran toward the door, just like she had done countless times before. However, she didn’t hear anyone chasing after her, even after running a few steps.
The tactic that had always worked was now failing to take effect. Ophelia kept looking back several times, walking extraordinarily slowly. No one had come after her, even after the elevator reached her floor.
The grievance on her face froze in place, unsure whether she should actually leave. Meanwhile, Damien inserted the USB drive into his office PC, his handsome face tense as he rapidly scanned through the videos.
Countless surveillance clips pieced together everything Celeste had done during that time. She never bothered to bully Ophelia.
Instead, it was always Ophelia who deliberately provoked and framed her.
