Chapter 14
At this moment, Jeremy spotted Kathleen and walked over to greet him.
Upon seeing him, she couldn’t help but look in the direction he came from, thinking that Shawn would also come over.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Jeremy Morrow,” he said, and extended a hand out.
Out of courtesy, she shook his hand. “Do you need something?”
“I just wanted to get to know you.” He smiled warmly at her and took a seat across from her.
Kathleen assumed he was aware of her relationship with Shawn and had come over to greet her. Thus, she didn’t ask him any further questions and simply smiled.
Jeremy’s eyes brightened as he took her profile in. There was a quiet and effortless grace about her that made his heart skip without warning.
He believed Shawn was blind not to admire her beauty.
“Do you want to swing by our room?” He wanted to bring her to Shawn and show him what a real beauty looked like.
Jeremy didn’t care if a woman as good-looking as her was fake.
Kathleen figured he had likely come to see her at Shawn’s request, so she agreed to his invitation.
Jeremy was surprised by how quickly she agreed and assumed she was used to being approached by men. Nonetheless, he had no issue with a woman who was ambitious and beautiful.
Of course, the precondition was that she had to be beautiful.
With that, Jeremy led Kathleen to their private room. The moment he entered the room, he raised his eyebrows at Shawn, and an unmistakably smug expression spread on his face.
He reached out and tried to wrap an arm around her waist when Colin suddenly called out, “Hello, Mrs. Vance.”
Jeremy froze mid-air and stared blankly at Colin. He even looked behind him to check if anyone was following him.
“Who are you calling?”
Colin’s gaze was fixed on Kathleen.
She looked slightly taken aback. From the way Jeremy acted, it was clear he had no idea who she was. So, Shawn hadn’t sent him to find her after all.
Jeremy awkwardly stepped away from her. Despite his disbelief, he wasn’t willing to give up on her and asked, “Are you Shawn’s wife?”
Kathleen turned to look at Shawn. She didn’t know if she should nod since Shawn had stated they couldn’t reveal their relationship publicly.
“You should ask him instead.” She passed the question to Shawn.
At this moment, he stubbed out his cigarette without a word. His silence spoke louder than any response could.
Jeremy was utterly stunned. He looked at Kathleen, then back at Shawn with an agape mouth. “Did I just become a part of some husband and wife drama?”
Kathleen swallowed hard. She really hadn’t known that Jeremy didn’t recognize her. If she did, she wouldn’t have come.
“I’m leaving now. Please continue with your night.” She forced a smile and left hurriedly.
…
After she left, Jeremy shut the door and poured himself a drink before standing in front of Shawn.
Shawn’s calm and unbothered expression irritated him even more.
“Only you would act like it’s nothing!” He sat across Sean, legs crossed. “Honestly, she’s way prettier than the other one.”
Then, Jeremy looked at Colin and asked, “Right?”
Colin did not remark.
“You talk too much.” Shawn glanced at him.
“Do you really not like her?” Jeremy placed a cigarette between his lips. “Well, she doesn’t seem to like you as well. How about you divorce her, and I’ll marry her?”
Hearing this, Shawn snorted. “She does like me and doesn’t want a divorce.”
“Why do you look kinda smug?” Jeremy examined the look on Shawn’s face.
“I’m just stating facts.” Shawn glanced at him before adding, “If she’s willing to divorce, I would not be in your way.”
Jeremy rolled his eyes and scoffed, “You’re such a jerk!”
Shawn didn’t mind what Jeremy called him.
…
After two hours of singing, Kathleen and her group finally stepped out of the private room.
They were chatting and laughing when someone blushed and whispered excitedly, “There are three extremely handsome men behind us!”
Everyone turned.
At this moment, Shawn was putting on his coat, his movements so smooth they heightened his allure.
He then turned to speak with the bespectacled Jeremy, who stood beside him in a suit, looking incredibly attractive as he listened intently.
Colin, on the other hand, was stern, cool, and distant.
Their presence caught the eyes of Kathleen’s coworkers and every woman passing through the hall. The bolder ones even approached them, hoping to get their phone number.
However, Shawn walked away directly, making his rejection crystal clear.
Colin ignored them all completely as well.
Only Jeremy gave them his business card and said with a smile, “Let’s keep in touch.”
He was a social butterfly, smooth and charming.
Shawn didn’t bother with him and walked straight by Kathleen.
Seeing him walking her way, Kathleen moved aside a little to let him through.
Her small gesture made him turn to look at her. The moment their gazes met, she flashed him a faint smile.
However, he immediately turned and left.
Kathleen pouted.
Jeremy walked away with a gentle smile, the kindness in his expression unmistakable. As he headed out, he made his way over to Kathleen and asked, “Do you want to leave together?”
His question drew everyone’s attention to her, making her the center of attention.
“No,” she responded.
“I’ll give you a ride.” He glanced outside. “Let’s go.”
That statement alone left a lot of space for imagination.
Kathleen realized if she didn’t leave now, her coworkers would swarm her with questions, and she might not get home for a while.
Hence, she accepted Jeremy’s invitation after some thought.
“Alright. Let’s go.”
Under everyone’s stunned gaze, she followed Jeremy out.
Meanwhile, Shawn was still standing by his car. When he saw them walking out together and talking comfortably, he couldn’t help but frown.
“Are you taking your wife home or should I?”
Jeremy had only learned that they weren’t living together.
Shawn glanced at Katherine, and she met his gaze calmly before turning to Jeremy, saying, “Could you send me home?”
Hearing this, Jeremy raised an eyebrow smugly at Shawn.
“Sure.” He walked to his car and opened the passenger door for her.
Kathleen thanked him with a smile and got in his car.
Then, he closed the door, turned to Shawn with a smirk, and waved smugly. “See you later!”
As the car drove off, Shawn stood there with an unreadable expression.
Standing off to the side, Colin sighed quietly. He wasn’t sure who was out of line, but he had to admit that Kathleen had quite the nerve to get into another man’s car in front of her husband.
…
Jeremy was in a good mood as he drove the car. He glanced at Kathleen and said, “I heard you like him.”
“Did he tell you that?” She assumed no one else could have done so.
“Yes,” he replied. “Why did you marry him? Don’t tell me you really like him.”
She nodded. “Of course. Why else would I marry him?”
Jeremy didn’t believe it and laughed. “You’re so beautiful. It’s such a shame we didn’t meet earlier. That way, you wouldn’t have fallen for him.”
“He did me a favor, and I’m repaying him for it,” Kathleen stated, looking out the window.
Her words made him break out in laughter. He obviously didn’t believe such a cliche. “Did he save your life? Is that why you’re willing to offer yourself in return?”
…
At this moment, the car drove onto the bridge where her mother had once tried to jump. She forced the gloom down in her heart and hummed gently.
