Chapter 8
“Are you really doing this?” Micah’s friend felt that it was inappropriate. “How are you going to explain this to Lena?”
Micah lowered his head. It took him a while before he spoke, saying, “Lena will understand. It’s more important to save Laris right now.”
His voice was laced with anger when he saw how hesitant his friend was. “If you won’t help me get Laris out of there, then stay out of it. I’ll handle things with Lena.”
All his friends could do was remain silent.
A sense of uneasiness settled over Micah as he sat in the car heading to the wedding venue.
Something about what Lena had said before he left left him feeling unsettled. He felt like he had missed something and that she might leave him.
However, he quickly shook off the thought and buried the anxiety deep down in his heart.
Lena had been with him for so long and loved him so much. There was no way she would leave him.
Micah thought about what his friend had said, and a trace of guilt washed over him. He took out his phone and sent Lena a message.
“Baby, I’ll take you on a vacation once I’m back.”
Lena would always reply to his message instantly in the past. But this time, despite staring at the screen for a long time, nothing came.
The unsettling feeling he had barely suppressed came flooding back at that moment.
The car came to a stop just as he took out his phone and was about to call her.
“Micah, we’re here.”
Micah immediately put away his phone at his friend’s words.
He could explain everything to Lena later. Laris was more important right now.
The doorman at the hotel entrance recognized Micah and didn’t dare stop him. “Mr. Shaw, are you here for Ms. Halloway’s wedding?”
Micah’s eyes darkened at the mention of the wedding. His voice turned cold as he said, “Show me the way.”
The doorman didn’t dare ask further and quickly guided him to the banquet hall.
Laris was looking at herself in the mirror in a wedding dress in the banquet hall. Her eyes did not look like that of a panicked woman being forced into a marriage.
“Laris, are you sure this will work?” Kenneth Halloway was slightly worried. There was no sign of anything happening so far.
Just then, a staff member approached Laris and whispered something to her.
A confident smile immediately spread across her face. “Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll be with Micah very soon.”
Kenneth reassuringly nodded at her words.
“And now, let’s welcome the bride!” the emcee’s voice echoed through the hall as Laris quickly put on a sorrowful expression, her eyes filling with tears.
The banquet doors burst open, and Micah’s voice rang out, “I’d like to see who dares go through with this wedding!”
Kenneth caught Laris‘ signal and immediately grabbed her hand. He deliberately raised his voice and said. “You’re not going anywhere! No matter who shows up today, you’re getting married!”
Laris began to dramatically struggle. “Dad, I don’t love him! I don’t want to marry him!”
Micah immediately rushed forward at the sight of her struggle and pulled her into his arms. “Cancel the wedding. Any losses will be covered by Shaw Group.” With that, he swept Laris up and strode out of the hotel.
“Micah, I can’t believe you really came for me. I nearly thought I’d have to marry someone I didn’t love!” Laris wrapped her arms around his neck with tears all over her face.
Micah’s heart softened even more at the sight of that. “Lissy, I’ll never let you marry him.”
“Dad will never forgive me if this marriage doesn’t go through.”
He then comforted her in a soft voice, saying, “It’s fine. Shaw Group will continue to work with your family and make up for any losses.”
Laris said with heartfelt gratitude, “Micah, thank you so much. I honestly don’t know what I would’ve done without you.”
Micah led Laris back to the car parked at the hotel entrance. “I’ll take you home and handle the rest.”
Suddenly, Laris seemed to have thought of something and feigned surprise. “Micah, will Lena be upset that you barged into the wedding for me? It’s all my fault. She’s still carrying your child. Should I come with you and explain things to her?”
Micah recalled Lena’s questions about Laris from earlier and felt a twinge of fear that she might misunderstand. But in the end, he said, “It’s fine. You’ve had a long day today. Get some rest. Lena isn’t the kind of person to make a scene. She’ll understand.”
Since that was what he’d said, Laris didn’t press further either. But deep down, she was dying to see Lena’s expression when she learned that Micah had stormed in to stop her wedding.

Chapter 8
After making a detour to Lena’s favourite cake shop and picking up a small cake, Micah dropped Laris off.
“Baby, did the child give you any trouble today? I bought your favourite cake, but you can’t have too much…” he immediately called out as soon as he stepped into the house.
But there was no response.
