Naomi’s eyes were still wide open on her lifeless face. That image of Naomi seared itself deeply into James‘ mind. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing, and he was frozen in place.
The murmur of her name suddenly snapped him back to reality. His heart felt as though it were being shredded by a million latives. The pain was so intense, he could barely feel his legs as he moved.

The driver stole a glance at Naomi, who was in James‘ arms and was clearly not breathing. He hesitantly whimpered, “She’s dead.”

James was finally able to set Naomi down. He draped his suit jacket over her naked body and scooped her up into his arms once more. It was as if he were afraid that she would disappear.
