Chapter 11
In less than ten minutes, the light above the operating theatre turned off.
Janes watched closely as the doctor wheeled Naomi out of the operating theater. When the doctor shook his head and declared Nani’s death, the last glimmer of hope James had was shattered and ripped away.
James felt a chill emanating from deep within his bones. It was so overwhelming that he couldn’t make a single sound.
When Jocelyn finally arrived at the hospital, she was greeted with the sight of James seated hopelessly on the floor, oblivious to his surroundings.
She ran ahead and tugged on his arms to try to help him up. However, it was as though James were pinned to the ground. His eyes were eerily hollow, but the next words he uttered were laced with pure hatred.
“I demand an autopsy.”
With that, James immediately got to his feet. His body covered in blood made him looks extremely terrifying, but Jocelyn still mustered the courage to hold onto him. In a panic, she blurted, “What about our wedding, James?
“Did you know how embarrassed 1 was when I was inside? 1-”
Before Jocelyn.could finish her sentence, James interrupted her, curtly saying, “Cancel İL”
Right after that, he flung her hands away and marched out. He didn’t even spare her a single glance,
Jocelyn stomped her feet with frustration, feeling resentful.
Naomi observed all these scenes quietly as she floated above. Then, she quickly followed behind James
At the morgue, James caressed Naomi’s greyish face over and over again. He cried, “It’s all my fault. I didn’t protect you well enough.”
His tears dripped onto the cold metal table she was on as he held her hands longingly, as he examined the scars on her exposed skin, his heart ached so painfully that he couldn’t bear to continue.
He stood up again and said firmly, “Please perform an autopsy for me.”
Simon Jones, a forensic pathologist at the hospital, approached James with gloves and face masks ready. However, when he looked at James, it was clear that the latter had no intention of leaving.
“It would be best if you leave,” Simon sald hesitantly.
However, James didn’t move at all, refusing to tale his eyes off Naomi. “I’ll just be here.”
Simon exchanged a look with his colleagues but said nothing else. He was just about to remove the white sheet that covered Naomi when a woman’s voice suddenly rang out, “Stop!”
James turned around and saw Jocelyn, who had rushed over hastily. “What’s the point of you doing this, James?” She asked, “Wasn’t every bit of her suffering something she brought upon herself?”
Was it all brought upon her by herself?
Everything started because Naomi had fallen in love with James. Everything she had done from the very beginning was all for him.
Moreover, when James caught the unmistakable panic in Jocelyn’s eyes, a sudden chill crept down his spine. He wondered if everything she had previously said was truly the truth.
Once the seed of suspicion had been planted, James suddenly felt like he didn’t have enough courage to go down this rabbit hole,
“The most important thing right now isn’t Naomi, James. Are you really going to let me face all of our wedding guests alone? Do you even remember that our wedding day is today?”
Jocelyn’s eyes were red–rimmed as she wept, her tears streaming down uncontrollably and ruining her makeup. Yet, it somehow made her look all the more pitiful
James finally gave in. He turned to look at Naomi, who was lying on the table, and turned to ask Simon. “Would it make a difference if we postponed the autopsy until tomorrow?”
James breathed a sigh of relief when he heard that. However, the solemnness on his face still terrified Jocelyn.
No one is allowed to set loot in here without my permission,” James instructed.
His words had caused Jocelyn to relax a little.
Naomi watched James walk away, but didn’t follow. Instead, she lingered near her lifeless body, quietly curling up beside it.
She wondered why she could still see herself and the people who had hurt and disgusted her, even after death. She truly didn’t understandi
Meanwhile, James had merely given a few brief orders at the entrance before returning.
When Jocelyn saw that James still intended to go back to the morgue, she grabbed his arm in distellet. Her grip was so firm that her nails dug into his

flesh, hurting him in the process.
“What am I to you, James Payne? Are you just going to keep that dead person company all the time now?” Jocelyn had clearly lost her temper as her tone got more and more harsh.
When James heard Jocelyn refer to Naomi as a “dead person“, he stared at her in disbelief. She had never seemed irrational to him before.
He couldn’t hold back the coldness in his voice as he warned, “Jocelyn Mentley, Naomi isn’t just any dead person. I have the freedom to do whatever I want with my time.
“Besides, we’re not married yet. You have no right to control me!”
Jocelyn looked at the fuming man before her and finally understood everything he meant to say. She smiled and inched closer. “You never planned to marry me, did you. Temes?”
James was silent, his lips tightly pursed as he looked at Jocelyn. Almost instantly, he found his answer. “I don’t want to get married anymore.”
Jocelyn burst into tears upon hearing that. She felt so wronged and humiliated. She held James‘ hand and said, “I know you’re in a bad mood now, James. “I’ll wait for you. I can wait for you. Please don’t give up on me so easily, okay?”
As she spoke, she hugged James, her warm tears soaking into his shoulder, instantly reminding him of Naomi
Naomi hadn’t bugged him like this for a long time now.
James‘ body stiffened when he thought about that. He pushed Jocelyn away dejectedly and said, “I’d like to be left alone.”
