Chapter 6
Sasha was locked in the room. With no other choice, she quietly called Casper, pleading with him to hurry back, “Cas, where are you? I’m really scared. Please, just come back and stay with me.”
Exhausted, Casper rubbed his forehead. “I’ll be there soon.”
When Casper arrived, Michael and Alyssa were still there, sitting with grim expressions.
Alyssa spotted him right away and hurried over. “Did you find Lis?”
Casper shook his head.
Alyssa’s face twisted with worry. “What do we do? Lis is pregnant. What should we do if anything happens to her? Could she have gone to the hospital?”
Casper couldn’t bring himself to tell Alyssa about the miscarriage. He worried she wouldn’t be able to handle the news.
“I already checked the hospital. She wasn’t there, but don’t worry, Mom. I’ll find Lis. Where’s Sasha?”
Alyssa’s anger flared. “How can you even think about her right now? Your wife, Lis, should be your only concern!”
Michael, who had stayed quiet until then, gestured for someone to take Sasha away.
Sasha burst into loud sobs before attempting to fake a faint. But Alyssa wasn’t falling for it. “Dump her in the mountains. Let’s see her keep up this act there.”
Panicked, Sasha cried out, “Cas, help me!”
Casper couldn’t stand by while this happened. “Mom, Sasha had nothing to do with this. Just let her go.”
Sasha was quick to play along. “It’s true! Lis‘ miscarriage wasn’t my fault! I didn’t do anything!”
“What?” Alyssa shot to her feet. “Say that again!”
Casper’s voice cracked like a whip, sharp with anger. “Sasha!”
The venom in their voices caught Sasha off guard. She stumbled over her words. “I–I didn’t say anything.”
“You just said Lis had a miscarriage?” Alyssa was in disbelief at what she heard. “Was it you?”
Her eyes burned with lethal fury at Sasha, as if she might pound her into a pulp any second.
Sasha quickly shook her head. “Not me. I didn’t do anything.‘

“This is insane!” Michael hurled a mug to the ground, shattering it. “Then what happened? Why would Lis just disappear like that?”
Only then did Casper remember that earlier that day, I’d gone for the anklet but ended up slapping Sasha and leaving empty–handed.
His gaze locked onto Sasha. ‘What did you say to Lis?”
Sasha realized things had gone too far and knew she had to tell the truth. “Cas, I messed up. Please, just forgive me.
“Out with it!” Casper demanded.
“Lis came by earlier for the anklet, and I told her you gave it to me. It was j–just a joke…”
Sasha’s voice trailed off as Casper’s expression darkened. He trembled with barely contained anger.
Now he understood why I’d left. After losing our baby, all I wanted was that anklet as a keepsake, only to believe he’d given it away to Sasha.
