Chapter 19
Eugene stood at the entrance to the private room. He’d even gone to the restroom to check on his outfit. He was at the restaurant for a meal; he didn’t expect to run into Nerissa there.
Now that he knew where she was, he couldn’t wait until some other time to talk to her. And so, he’d hurriedly straightened his clothes before following her to the private room.
Before entering the room, he’d imagined how Nerissa would react. Perhaps she would still be road at him and unwilling to forgive him, or perhaps she would’ve already moved past what had happened and considered him a friend.
Whatever it was, he was willing to live with however she felt about him. He was confident that he would rekindle her love for him as long as he got to see her again.
The only scenario be hadn’t imagined was that she would already be seeing someone else. They were even about to get married.
Eugene felt like a bucket of ice–cold water had been poured over him when he heard Nerissa introduce Ezra as her fiancé. A fist seemed to clench tightly around his heart, making it hard for him to breathe.
How he hoped to hear her say she was just joking and that Ezra was just her junior… But that didn’t happen.
He heard Nerissa’s friends start to excitedly discuss the wedding. They went from arguing over being a bridesmaid to wanting to be their children’s godmothers
He couldn’t take it anymore!
Eugene burst into the private room with his question, and his gaze landed on Nerissa’s and Ezra’s intertwined hands. They were so apparently intimate and affectionate that it made him feel smothered
I couldn’t care less what Eugene thought upon seeing me with Ezra. All I knew was that he and I had broken up two years ago. To me, he was more like a familiar stranger.
The welcome back party was supposed to be filled with fun and cheer, yet his sudden appearance had ruined that. He’d also made things worse with what seemed to me to be a dumb question.
I couldn’t help thinking about how I’d made it clear to him two years ago that we were over. Why was he still acting like this?
I frowned at him, asking impatiently, “Why are you here? We broke up two years ago.”
I felt a tickling sensation on my palm. I turned to look at Ezra, unable to stop myself from laughing when I saw how aggrieved he looked. I tightened my hold on him. It seemed I would need to turn on the charm with him later.
Ezra sensed Eugene’s burning gaze on him while he subtly flirted with me. He wasn’t the type to back down from a challenge, so he snaked an arm around my waist and flaunted our relationship
Tara, who had been watching the show with interest, couldn’t take it anymore. She stepped forward, looking frosty. “You’re the one who chose that woman two years ago, Eugene Why are you pestering Riss now?”
Eugene didn’t seem to hear her. He didn’t take his eyes off me as he asked, “This is all fake, right, Riss? You just got someone to put on this act with you to get back at me, didn’t you?”
