Chapter 3 What Are You Doing?
My mother lingered by the door for hours, only leaving after night had fallen.
Ignoring her entirely, I opened my laptop and began editing the footage from the cinema.
If my suspicion was correct, Micah and Piper had already slept together.
Just the thought of it made my stomach twist.
Soon, I finished editing the video. Just as I was about to put my phone down, my Instagram buzzed with a new follow request.
It was from someone I didn’t recognize, which threw me for a loop.
After hesitating for a moment, I accepted it.
Almost instantly, a message popped up. “Hello, you must be Micah Turner’s fiancee. I’m Piper Hamilton’s fiance.”
My first thought was that he must know about the betrayal too.
“Yeah, it’s Tabitha Roswell. What’s the matter?” I typed.
Instead of words, he sent a video.
It was a clear, uncensored recording of Micah and Piper being intimate.
The moment I opened the video, something inside me shattered.
From the background, it appeared that the footage was filmed at Piper’s home.
When I didn’t respond, he sent another message.
“I know your wedding’s only days away. After much thought, I decided you deserve to hear the truth. Ms. Roswell, you really should think twice about marrying Micah.”
I lowered my eyes and replied, “Have you confronted Piper about this?”
“Not yet. Why?”
“Then please keep this between us until after the wedding.”
“Are you serious? Why would you marry a scumbag like him?”
I didn’t reply. Instead, I downloaded the video and merged it with the cinema footage.
This would ruin Micah’s reputation with his family for good. Considering how small his dick was, I honestly couldn’t figure out where he found the balls to cheat.
I was completely caught off guard when Piper’s fiance tracked me down the very next day.
“Ms. Roswell, I need to have a word with you,” he said.
To my surprise, he was much more handsome than Micah.
He stood tall. His perfectly tailored suit highlighted the commanding presence of a true elite.
We settled into a Frisian restaurant and took our seats. Locking eyes with him across the table, I asked, “So, what exactly do you want to discuss?”
“My name is Sterling Gray,” he replied. “I’m here to ask how you’re planning to handle your fiance’s betrayal. Are you really just going to let it go?”
I regarded him cautiously. I didn’t know what he was truly after, or how deeply he cared for Piper.
If he loved Piper enough to forgive her, there was no way he’d let me play those videos at the wedding.
“Don’t misunderstand me, Ms. Roswell,” he went on. “I’ve already made up my mind to end things with Piper. But from where I stand, it looks like you haven’t made any move to leave your unfaithful fiance. I figured you might need a little encouragement.”
I remained silent for a moment.
“This is my business,” I finally said. “I don’t see why I owe you any explanation, Mr. Gray.”
“Alright, Ms. Roswell. Since you’re still not convinced, why don’t you listen to this recording first?”
With that, Sterling set his phone on the table, and a recording began to play. It was a conversation between Piper and Micah.
“Do you love Tabitha?” Piper asked.
After a long, tense silence, Micah answered, “No. I don’t. It’s just familiarity at this point. The only person I’ve ever loved is you.”
Piper chuckled happily, confessing she didn’t love Sterling either. She was engaged to him only because he came from a wealthy family and was a convenient choice.
Her voice softened, carrying a trace of sorrow. “If it weren’t for your mom standing in the way, we wouldn’t have to marry people we don’t even love.”
A sick feeling churned in my stomach. Even if Micah’s mother disapproved, they still had a choice. They could’ve stayed single instead of dragging innocent people into their tangled mess.
They were nothing more than a pair of despicable cheaters.
Thinking about the five years I wasted on Micah, my whole body trembled with anger.
From the moment I uncovered his infidelity, I knew our future was over. Now, all that was left for him was my contempt and hatred.
“Ms. Roswell, please, have some water and try to calm down,” Sterling said. He poured some water into a glass and handed it to me.
I lowered my head and took it, whispering, “Thank you.”
Seeing no trace of anger on Sterling’s face, I couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Gray, your fiancee told another man she doesn’t love you. Aren’t you angry?”
He raised an eyebrow. His eyes were calm and unwavering.
“Anger won’t fix anything. What matters now is how we handle this.”
Sterling’s composure was unnerving. I couldn’t tell if he actually cared about Piper at all.
Even if he didn’t love her, being betrayed like that should’ve stung. But he stayed perfectly calm.
“So, what’s your move, Mr. Gray?”
“I’ll make sure both of them are utterly disgraced.”
A faint smile played at the corner of his lips, but his voice remained cold.
Maybe he wasn’t as unaffected as he seemed.
“My wedding to Micah is in two days,” I said.
“So, is that when you plan to expose them?”
As I remained quiet, Sterling’s smile only widened.
“Looks like I was right,” he said. “Ms. Roswell, how would you feel about having an extra ally?”
I was caught off guard and asked how he intended to help.
He didn’t give a direct answer. “You’ll see on the day.”
Time flew by, and soon, the day of my wedding arrived.
In the days before, Sterling sent me another recording.
In it, Micah promised Piper he would never sleep with me. Even after marrying me, he insisted that his loyalty would solely be with her.
I nearly gagged hearing him. What a joke. There was no way I’d let him come near me. If anyone was disgusting, it was him.
Without hesitation, I saved the recording. It would be perfect to play at the wedding, alongside everything else.
Micah had been missing for two days. He was probably hiding out somewhere with Piper.
But soon, they wouldn’t have to sneak around anymore.
As most of the guests settled in, I stepped onto the stage in my wedding dress. Taking the microphone from the host, I scanned the crowd and said, “Good evening, everyone. To start, I want to thank you all for coming to celebrate the wedding of Mr. Turner and me.”
Every head turned in my direction.
Micah stood below the stage. His brow furrowed as he stepped forward. But before he could get to me, someone I’d positioned there blocked his path and held him in place.
In that instant, the truth hit him. Something was very wrong.
“Tabitha, what are you doing?” he demanded.
