Day Before the Wedding I’m No Longer the Bride Ch 9

Chapter 9 Will You Give Me a Chance

I wasn’t surprised in the slightest

Micah and Piper had spent all those years secretly in love. Now that they were finally together, of course, they wanted to show it off to the world

I told Greta not to bother, but she said she just couldn’t keep that bitterness inside

1 sighed. What good would it do to hold it all in

There was no way I could release those videos; no one wanted to risk provoking the wealthy and powerful

I was caught off guard when Micah’s mother, Lena Turner, appeared at my doorstep the very next morning

I’d always been fond of her. When Micah introduced us, she genuinely seemed to care about me as a motherinlaw

This time, she didn’t ask any questions. Instead, she apologized for Micah’s betrayal

Tabitha, I’ve wanted to visit you for a long time, but honestly, I didn’t have the courage. This is all Micah’s fault, and I’ve given him a serious talking- to. I know you’re deeply hurt and disappointed, butcould you please consider giving him another chance?”

I frowned. Ms. Turner, does Micah know that you’re here to see me?”

Micah was raised in a singleparent household. His father had been unfaithful to Lena when Micah was very young, leaving her to raise him on her own

Lena carried the weight of those challenges all by herself

I’d heard she had little patience for homewreckers who destroyed families

So, I figured she likely didn’t approve of Piper either

Seeing her stay silent, I let out a sigh

Ms. Turner, there’s no future for Micah and me. He and Piper have a history stretching back to high school. He’s not coming back, and I’m not going back to him either.”

I despised men who couldn’t stay faithful

Tabithathey’ll break up eventually. You and Micah have been through so much over the years. Just give it time. He’ll come to realize you’re the one who truly belongs with him.”

I frowned, and a spark of irritation flared inside me

Lena knew Micah had cheated, yet she still had the nerve to ask me to wait for him. How had I missed just how deluded she was

Ms. Turner, I’m not waiting for him. And there’s no chance I’m getting back together with him. Please go home. I have important things to handle and can’t have visitors right now.”

After sending Lena away, I thought it was over

But just a few days later, Micah showed up at my door

He banged on it loudly, and the noise prompted complaints from the neighbors. Before long, a small crowd had gathered outside

There was no way I was opening that doornot with Micah in that state. What if he lost control again

I called the police, and only after they arrived did I open the door

Once I’d explained everything, Micah and I were both brought to the station

He got a harsh reprimand from the officers, and by the time it ended, his face was darker than it had been when he was banging on my door

As we stepped outside, he lunged toward me with rage burning fiercely in his eyes

I instinctively took a step back, my gaze tense and alert

Mical, if you try anything in front of the police station, you’re definitely looking at a few nights in jail.”

He froze. His face hardened as he stared at me

Do you really think I’d ever lay a hand on you?”

His eyes widened in disbelief, unable to accept that I saw him that way

I let out a cold, sarcastic laugh. Of course. Didn’t you lay hands on me on our wedding day? And the last time you showed up banging on my door, weren’t you just about to hit me again?”

The more I spoke, the darker his face grew

I didn’t mean for it to happen that day–”

Is that all you have to say?”

Micah fell silent. Just as I turned to walk away, he finally spoke up

What did you say to my mom? She got into a fight with Piper, and now she’s saying she won’t let me marry her.”

I sneered. Don’t worry, I didn’t say a thing. But it’s pretty clear your mom’s never liked Piper. Have you forgotten that your dad ran off with his mistress when you were just a kid?”

Micah’s face darkened as frustration flashed in his eyes. Tabitha, do you really have to keep digging up the past?”

Aren’t you the one who can’t stop showing up at my door, begging for attention?”

I was done wasting breath on him and turned to walk away

But just a few steps later, his cold voice pierced the silence

You’re not allowed to be with Jared!”

I just rolled my eyes and kept moving

What a lunatic

He was busy enjoying himself with Piper, so why should it matter who I was with

Over the next month, Piper and Micah flaunted their relationship everywhere

I’d blocked Micah long ago, but that didn’t stop Piper. She tracked down my Instagram and followed me with a fake account

I didn’t bother removing her. I figured I might as well sit back and watch the drama unfold

After months of persistence, Piper finally won Lena’s heart. Now, she and Micah were preparing to say their vows

Piper paraded their relationship across social media, but I couldn’t have cared less. Meanwhile, Jared reached out to check on me

Over the past few months, he’d leveraged the 5% stake I sold him to push Micah out of his chairman role

Micah showed up looking for trouble a few times, but since I moved, things had finally calmed down

I told Jared that Micah was no longer bothering me, and he quickly jumped at the chance to invite me to dinner

I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. I was pretty sure the dinner invitation was the real reason he got in touch

Since he’d covered the bill last time, I decided to say yes

But this time, I came prepared. I made the reservation myself to make sure he wasn’t footing the bill again

Jared laughed, teasing that it was obvious I wanted to return the favor from our last meal

I got there just after 5:00 pm, and the restaurant was still relatively quiet

The instant I saw Micah and Piper, a surge of frustration hit me

I’d taken Micah here before; he’d said the food was good and promised we’d return someday

But as life grew busier, our nights out became rare

Now, ever since he’d been stripped of his chairman role and reduced to a shareholder, it seemed like he suddenly had plenty of time to take Piper out for

dinners like this

By the time I walked in, they’d already been eating for some time

Micah seemed like he wanted to greet me, but I ignored him and kept my gaze fixed ahead. I picked a seat that was neither too close nor too far from thein

At first, their mood was calm, but as the night went on, their conversation suddenly erupted into a heated argument

Piper’s voice rang out sharply. Micah, do you even love me? Why did Tabitha get to have her wedding at the biggest hotel downtown, while mine has to

be somewhere eise? I want my wedding at that hotel. If it’s not there, then I’m not going through with this marriage!”

Her words carried clearly across the room. I couldn’t tell if she was making sure I heard her or just trying to pressure Micah

Micali hated being threatened by anyone, but when it came from the woman he loved, it was a different matter entirely

As expected, his voice softened into a murmur as he comforted Piper. His face melted into tenderness

Once she settled down, Piper smirked and shot me a pointed glance

I looked away. Surely, she didn’t still think I cared, did she

Jared arrived shortly after

Throughout dinner, I could feel Micah’s gaze lingering on me

It just made me more irritated. I had no idea what he was trying to accomplish

Once the meal was over, I stepped outside to say goodbye to Jared

Without warning, he reached out and pulled me closer. His expression melted into a warm, tender smile

I’ve been trying to win your heart for months. Will you give me a chance?”
