Chapter 70
After grabbing what he needed, Vincent searched the living room but didn’t see Gabriella.
He glanced at his watch and realized time was running out. If he delayed any longer, his grandfather would be back soon.
Jason had heart problems, so there was no way Vincent could ever let him see Gabriella.
Just then, he vaguely heard the sound of a quarrel coming from the back garden.
Struck by a sudden thought, his expression quickly darkened. He strode straight toward the source of the noise.
“What are you two doing?” Vincent asked as his eyes locked onto Diana with venomous intensity.
“Vincent!” Gabriella let out a pitiful sob, turning around and lowering the hand that had been covering her cheek.
Vincent’s face turned stormy. The side of her face was red and swollen. It was clear she had been slapped.
“Diana!” he yelled in a warning tone, fury beginning to burn in his eyes.
“Was this your doing?” he asked coldly.
“It wasn’t Diana’s fault… I just… tripped and scraped myself…” Gabriella said weakly, glancing nervously at Diana as she spoke.
Her demeanor was one of fear, as if she didn’t dare to speak the truth.
This only fueled Vincent’s anger.
“It really had nothing to do with Diana…”
“Enough!” Vincent roared in rage, grabbing Gabriella’s hand and pulling her away.
As he brushed past Diana, his icy gaze swept over her as he spat, “You’re completely unreasonable. Truly disappointing.”
Maria came rushing over in a flurry just as the commotion ended, still wearing her apron. She looked in confusion from the furious Vincent to the calm Diana. “What… What happened?
Once Vincent disappeared from view, Maria hurried over to Diana.
“Mrs. Hendrix, are you alright?” she asked, concern and worry etched all across her face.
Diana smiled and shook her head. “Thank you for your concern, Maria. I’m fine.”
After all, she had slapped Gabriella and lost that diamond ring–something that might once have held significant meaning to her. However, she no longer cared about Vincent, so why would she care about a cold, lifeless object?
Her marriage with Vincent was just like that diamond ring–brilliant and dazzling on the surface, but icy and sharp when held in the palm.
So, with today’s slap, she wasn’t the one who suffered a loss since she wasn’t the one in pain.
Diana had always been calm and reserved. This was her first time hitting someone, and she could still feel her heart racing after the incident.
“Mrs. Hendrix, I noticed a handprint on that woman’s cheek just now. Did you do that?” Maria asked cautiously.
Instead of denying it, Diana nodded
If she hadn’t done it, she would never admit it, no matter what. But if she had, she would own it outright.
Maria immediately became excited even jumping in place and clapping her hands. “Good for you! Well done!” Diana was speechless,
She was startled by Maria’s overly enthusiastic reaction.
“Mrs. Hendrix, you should’ve done this a long time ago! That Gabriella is absolutely shameless! The nerve of her–seducing someone’s husband at such a young age. If she were my daughter, I’d have given her a proper beating!”
