Chapter 8
Yesterday, Ellie, on the brink of death, cried with blurry eyes and said to him:
“Alpha, I remember all the kindness you’ve shown me, but the more you care for me, the more Ava won’t let me go. You didn’t go back to the packhouse with her, so Alpha and Luna came to cause me trouble. I know my place, so I will use a knife soaked in vampire poison to end my life. I can’t live with the shame…”
Sadly, he had believed Ellie’s words.
Aaron, usually composed and rarely angry, now let his expression darken completely, his eyes turning as cold as ice.
“I should never have believed you. Ava’s blood should not have been used to save your worthless life! Beta, drag her away and lock her in the dungeon!”
Immediately, a group of warriors surrounded Ellie and restrained her.
Ellie struggled for a while, but realizing there was no way out, she sneered.
“Alpha, isn’t it because you’ve been so constrained by your parents that you were desperate to break free from their control? That’s why you believed me. You didn’t believe the one you loved, thinking she was colluding with your parents. You didn’t even believe in your love for her–how pathetic!”
Ellie was dragged away. But her laughter was like a dagger, stabbing deep into Aaron’s heart, causing him pain so intense he could hardly breathe.
He had been the one to hurt Ava with his words. He had been the one to take Ava’s blood.
A huge wave of sorrow swept over him, nearly making him collapse.
After leaving Willowglen, I didn’t go to Stonevale.
I wanted to visit the place where my parents had protected for their entire lives. After traveling for some time, I arrived at Velmira.
It wasn’t as prosperous as Willowglen, but it was a peaceful little town.
A fisherman who was rowing a boat smiled at me.
“Velmira has a lot of rogue attacks from other packs. You don’t seem to be from the nearby pack. Why did you come here?”
I didn’t answer.
My parents had guarded this place their whole lives, and I wanted to make it better.
I opened a bookstore here, and with the money I earned, I started a café and took in homeless children.
I hoped they wouldn’t suffer the same bullying I had when I was young.
They could grow strong here, just as I did.
Time passed quickly. One rainy day, I closed the bookstore and prepared to walk home in the rain.
As I stepped outside, an umbrella appeared above my head.
The familiar scent of vanilla filled the air.
“You’re still the same. You always forget your umbrella on rainy days, waiting at the school gates for me to pick you up. But your health isn’t good. Can’t you take better care of yourself?”
I looked up and met Aaron’s gaze.
For a brief moment, I thought I was dreaming.
Aaron had changed. His eyes weren’t as bright as before, and he had lost so much weight.
His voice caught in his throat, almost unrecognizable.
“Ava, I finally… I finally found you.”
I had thought I would never see Aaron again.
“Did the Alpha and Luna send you?” I clenched my fists, pushing down the turmoil in my heart.
How could Aaron have come to find me?
Aaron stared into my eyes as if afraid I might disappear. His eyes were filled with red, as if on the edge of breaking.

He gently touched my head, just like when we were children.
“It’s me. I wanted to see you.”
I widened my eyes, my mind going blank.
“You came to find me…what about Ellie?”
Aaron’s heart suddenly twisted with intense pain, and a deep sorrow spread.
He had never let the one he loved know how he truly felt.
