Chapter 5
Everyone in the hall started whispering among themselves. I looked at Lucas and said softly, “I forgot to introduce him to you. He’s my dad.”

As soon as the car door was shut, I could no longer hear Lucas crying outside. Leaning against the seat, I finally exhaled in relief.
“Long time no see, Kylie.” I heard Sebastian’s magnetic voice beside me. I instinctively shifted to the side to leave more space between us.
Sebastian casually tapped his fingers against his knee. His perfectly tailored black suit accentuated his perfect figure, and it also made his skin look flawless. The mole near the comer of his eye was barely visible. He pursed his thin lips together, exuding a sense of nobility.
“Haven’t you seen enough?” I asked rudely while glaring at him.
Sebastian suddenly leaned toward me. I could detect a faint smell of geranium on him as he brushed his fingers gently against the wound on my forehead. “You look like a mess–nothing like the Kylie I once knew.”
“It’s none of your business!” I slapped his hand away, but he reached out to hold my hand instead.
“Kylie! Don’t be so rude!” Dad, who was sitting in front, scoffed coldly. “If Sebastian hadn’t called me, I wouldn’t have known that my precious daughter was suffering so much.”
Dad glared at me through the rear–view mirror. “He’s just a nobody from a lowly family. How dare he make you suffer like this?”
I lowered my head as tears rolled down my cheeks uncontrollably.
Sebastian clicked his tongue. He suddenly pinched my cheeks. “Why are you crying? It makes you look hideous.”
“That hurts! Let go, Sebastian!”
Things were lively at Floyd Residence. During dinner, Sebastian boldly sat at the head of the table while slowly cutting his steak.
I kicked his leather shoes. “Why aren’t you leaving yet?”
Sebastian elegantly took a sip of his wine. “Mr. Floyd asked me to stay here so that I can take you out and keep you company.”
“You?” I got up angrily, but he pulled me back into my seat.
“Just focus on your food.” Sebastian put a slice of steak on my plate. “Why are you as skinny as a pole?”
I lowered my head and focused on my dinner, not daring to look at him. Truthfully, ever since I was a child, I had always been scared of Sebastian.
Ever since I saved him that winter, he often dropped by my house. Dad explained that although Sebastian looked gentle and kind, he was actually rather ruthless.
Back then, when I was determined to marry Lucas, Sebastian’s gaze had been rather terrifying. His and Dad’s expressions had looked equally nasty.
“You’ll regret it.” That was what Sebastian told me at the time.
Believing that he was cursing me, I got so angry that I spoke without thinking. “I hope someone as ruthless as you will be alone for the rest of your life! You deserve it!”
After that, I heard he went to Marope and never returned. I never thought that with just one phone call, he and Dad would hurry back home.
I sneakily looked at Sebastian. Five years had passed, and he looked more mature and composed than ever. From the way he carried himself, he came off as someone in power. He didn’t seem to have endured any hardships in Marope.
“What are you looking at?” Sebastian suddenly looked up. His intense gaze seemed to drill right into me.
I hurriedly looked down, feeling my heart skip a beat.
Meanwhile, things were tense in the banquet hall. The reporters exchanged glances before lining up to direct their microphones at Lucas.
“Mr. Johnson, that woman… Is your wife really Ms. Floyd?”
Lucas fixed his gaze in the direction Kylie had just left. He unconsciously clenched his fists. It was as if he was about to crush Megan’s wrist with his grip.
“Ow!” Megan screamed in pain. Tears welled up in her eyes instantly. “Lucas, you’re hurting mel
Megan leaned weakly against him. But as soon as she lowered her head, hatred flashed through her eyes.
At that moment, her manager hurried over, looking rather panicked and upset. “Something’s happened, Ms. Litt! Mr. Jones…”
Megan immediately flashed her signature sweet smile at the cameras. “You have another new script for me?”
The manager handed Megan a phone with trembling hands. “The Investor has requested to have you replaced immediately. Otherwise, he’ll withdraw his investment for the entire movie!”
“What?” Megan shrieked, and her flawless makeup was smudged as a result.
The reporters immediately circled around her, their cameras flashing like mad.
“Ms. Litt, did you offend the investor?”
“Rumor has it that you obtained your resources through unethical methods. What do you have to say about that?”
Megan Immediately looked rather sick. Suddenly, she clutched her chest and rolled her eyes before collapsing to the ground right away.

In the hospital ward, the smell of disinfectant was overwhelming. Megan slowly came to her senses. As soon as she saw Lucas by her bedside, her eyes reddened instantly.
“Lucas, Kylie must be the one behind all this trouble! I clearly remember that her father was rather plain looking. She probably despises the fact that I’ve taken all your attention recently. So, she approached the Floyds and convinced Benjamin to act as her father to humiliate me!”
Megan reached out to grab Lucas‘ hand, but he dodged her. Seeing that her trick didn’t work, she immediately flung herself into his arms, letting her tears stain his shirt. “Kylie purposely set me up to embarrass me! I don’t want to live anymore!”
Lucas pushed her away roughly. “Enough! I’m going out. Rest well.”
He turned to say to his assistant in an icy voice, “Investigate Kylie Allen. I want to know everything about her!”
Lucas‘ heart sank. Even after all these years, he didn’t seem to know the real Kylie.
While Lucas was in his office, his assistant knocked on the door before bursting into the room. “Mr. Johnson, quickly check out the news!”
Lucas turned on the TV. No matter which channel he switched to, all of them were discussing his matter with Megan. It was just like how the news had covered Kylie’s story everywhere back then.
