Chapter 7
Lucas stood in the kitchen. Suddenly, he recalled the first time Kylie had ever cooked for him after they got married. She seemed flustered as she tried to follow the recipe on the tablet and prepare dinner. In the end, she frantically hid the burned steak behind her.
Back then, Lucas had made fun of Kylie’s terrible cooking skills. But why would a young lady of a wealthy household like Kylie ever need to cook on her own? Clearly, she had endured the grease and smoke just so she could prepare home–cooked dishes for him.
But what had Lucas ever done for Kylie? He had abandoned her during her pregnancy because of Megan’s so–called depression. He had even believed in those poorly made–up lies and insisted on protecting Megan’s “reputation“. In the end, he caused Kylie to lose their baby.
Lucas slapped himself hard. Then, he reached for his phone with shaky hands and called Kylie. But all he heard was the busy signal. Lucas called repeatedly until his phone ran out of battery and turned off on its own.
Suddenly, he heard someone knocking urgently on the door. He trembled all over, and his heart started racing. He wondered if Kylie had returned. Did that mean she had forgiven him?
Lucas staggered to the door and swung it open. “Kylie! You’re finally…”
Instead, he was greeted by the sight of Megan at the door. Her makeup was smudged, and her eyes were swollen. She gripped the doorframe tightly. “Lucas, quickly let me in! Those reporters are about to kill me!”
Lucas gazed coldly behind Megan and noticed at least a dozen reporters dashing toward her with their cameras.
“Get lost.” His voice was as cold as ice.
Meanwhile, Megan went nuts as she tried to squeeze through the door. “Lucas, let me in first! You can’t treat me this way! Those videos were edited! Someone wants to harm me!”
He merely shoved her away. “Go and find the baby’s biological father. I don’t want to see you.”
Megan screamed as she tumbled down the stairs. Her expensive dress was now covered in dust.
The reporters immediately surrounded her, their cameras flashing like crazy.
Suddenly, a glamorous middle–aged woman made her way through the crowd. “You bitch! I’ve finally found you!”
She grabbed Megan by the hair. “I was wondering why my husband kept leaving on business trips every few days. Seems like you were the reason! You vixen!”
She slapped Megan hard, but Megan didn’t back down either. She began scratching the middle–aged woman’s face. “Old hag, you’re the one who couldn’t control your own man!”
Both began hitting each other. Megan’s luxury bag was ripped to pieces, causing her makeup items to scatter on the floor.
Suddenly, Megan clutched her stomach. “Oh! My baby!”
The middle–aged woman merely sneered before kicking Megan in the stomach. Blood trickled down the inside of her thighs, causing her to cry in agony before she
blacked out.
The next day, all the news headlines included photos of Megan covered in blood as she was lifted into the ambulance.
One after another, multiple luxury brands began announcing that they would be terminating their contracts with Megan. Even dramas that were in the middle of production were all rushing to recast her role.
Megan, an actress who used to be admired by the masses, had turned into a public disgrace.
After returning to Floyd Residence, I spent my days in a haze. I did nothing aside from eating and sleeping.
When the family doctor dropped by to give me a check–up, he scowled at my condition. “Ms. Floyd, you must take care of yourself since you just had a miscarriage.”
The doctor’s advice prompted Dad to smash three antique cups immediately.
“If I had known about this earlier, I would’ve broken that scumbag’s legs!” Dad trembled in anger.
Sebastian stood by the window without saying anything. Instead, he took out his phone to make a call. The next day, Johnson Corporation’s stock prices plummeted, and all of Megan’s endorsement contracts were canceled indefinitely. All in all, she was banned from the industry.
I couldn’t help but suspect that Sebastian had something to do with all these incidents. After all, he had been spending a lot of time at my home lately.
One evening, I sat on the garden swing and began daydreaming. Soon, shiny leather shoes appeared in my line of sight. I had no idea when Sebastian had even shown up. Since the evening breeze was slightly cool, he took off his blazer and draped it over my shoulders.
