Chapter 26 Who Stays the Same Forever?
Five years ago, Olive and Masie had about the same figure. But now, five years later, Masie’s dress hung loosely on her. It was clearly too big.
She stepped out of the room and stood still, facing Trevor, who remained seated in silence. The air around him was dark and oppressive, but so what?
What did that have to do with her?
y made Ofive collapse on the spot.
“It’s only been five years, and you’ve changed a lot,” he said in a voice so cold that it nearly m
she didn’t answer and simply lifted her chin. Dressed in a simple white gown, she once again carried the elegance and arrogance of the once–famous Ms. Swnsson. Every move of hers exoded just the right amount of grace and pride.
The cigarette in Trevor’s hand burned quietly, thin trails of smoke curling upward. Behind the white haze, his eyes looked even more unreadable. Suddenly, he stubbed out the cigarette without waming.
As he stood, his tall frame blocked out all the sunlight that had been shining down on her. He walked toward her and stopped right in front of her.
Her face hadn’t changed much since five years ago, but her eyes had. The spark they once beld was gone, replaced by a dull, lifeless stillness.
She didn’t flinch and looked him straight in the eye as she replied calmly, “Mr. Horton, who stays the same forever? who can really stand undefeated against time?
”
Before she could finish her sentence, his hand shot out from her chin to the back of her head, yanking hard at her short hair. It was so cough that a sharp pain shot up from her scalp instantly
He didn’t care whether it hurt, and slammed her down against the cold surface of the table without hesitation. “Olive, you’re just as disgusting as ever,” he hissed near her ear. “Look at this photo. Doesn’t it scare you?”
Despite being pinned-down, she bit her lip and refused to show her weakness.
She looked up at the photo. In it, Janice was seated in the center with Masie beside her, and Trevor Mood behind them, looking like a human shield, protecting the two women under his wing
Janice had always been beautiful and graceful. Her smile was warm and gentle. She had once been so kind to Olive, too.
Olive’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears, but she forced them back with all her strength.
“Janice’s death has nothing to do with me. Why should I be afraid?” she said, breathing slowly as she smiled faintly.
“You should keep her photo in front of Galina every single day! Let’s see if she’s afraid and if Janice haunts her in her dreams every night.”
What she didn’t low was that her heartless words had completely enraged Trevor.
His large, pale hand suddenly wrapped around her slender neck. She would die if he tightened his grip even slightly.
“Olive, you really never leam, do you?” His sculpted face tumed icy, carved with a land of dangerous, merciless beauty. There wasn’t even a flicker of emotion on his teatures
She didn’t resist and past loolad at his face in silence, just when she thought he might actually strangle her to death, he let go, making her gasp for air
Histhin lips curled into a slight smile. Before she came to her senses, he spoke, “You want your daughter back, don’t you? Perform well at the banquet tonight. If you can impress my clients, 1‘ give her back to you.”
