Chapter 23
The Schneider family, one of the most powerful and prestigious families in Havenport, fell from grace overnight.
The head of Schneider Group was taken in for investigation due to multiple criminal charges, including kidnapping and unlawful confinement, which in turn uncovered a rape case from five years ago.
In the end, Dylan was sentenced to ten years in prison, while another party involved received three years for hiring someone to commit a crime.
However, because the crime was never successfully carried out—and the offender was seriously injured and mentally unstable–the sentence was converted to probation, with the condition that they would spend the rest of their life in a psychiatric hospital.
Dylan confessed to all charges without resistance, but only asked for one thing–to see Julia one last time.
She hesitated for a long time but eventually agreed.
However, she didn’t go alone.
A thick pane of soundproof glass separated the two sides in the visitation room. Julia picked up the phone, and the moment she heard his voice, it made her feel momentarily dazed.
How had things ended up like this?
“Jules,” Dylan called out.
It hadn’t been especially long from the moment of his arrest to the sentencing, and only a few months had passed. Yet, while looking at each other now, it felt like a lifetime had passed.
Julia said nothing. She simply looked at him in silence, waiting for him to continue.
“If, back then… I hadn’t brought you into the Schneider family, would our ending be different?”
Still, she didn’t speak.
They wouldn’t have gone through so much trouble if he hadn’t taken her into the Schneider family.
If he had been more decisive–either insisted on marrying her, or firmly chosen to be with Kaitlyn–so many things could have been avoided.
If she hadn’t saved him back then….
However, in this world, there were no ifs.
Dylan was the sole heir to Schneider Group. Once he regained his memories, there was no way he would have stayed forever in that shabby rental apartment with her.
Once he returned to the Schneider family, he couldn’t possibly ignore everything his parents said.
But even if she returned to that moment, she probably still couldn’t ignore a dying man on the street and walk away without helping.
After a long silence, Dylan looked at her and suddenly smiled. “Jules, I still owe y you an apology. I’ve wronged you and hurt you. I’m sorry.”
Julia abruptly stood up and placed a wedding invitation on the table.
“Dylan, I’m getting married. From now on, let’s pretend we never knew each other.”
With that, Julia left, but Miles stayed behind.
Now that the person Dylan wanted to see was gone, he no longer cared about keeping up appearances. His expression turned cold, and his eyes

He didn’t feel there was anything left to say to this man. He got up, intending to end the visit early. But at the door, he paused and then turned around.
The phone had been left casually on the receiver, so he didn’t bother to pick it up again.
After some time, he managed to squeeze out, “Take good care of her.”
Upon hearing that, Miles smiled.
He looked straight at Dylan and smirked. “I’m not like you.”
He wouldn’t be indecisive. He wouldn’t take Julia for granted after finally winning her over. He had waited five years for her and would
guard her with his life.
“I won’t deny my love for her just because she’s seen me at my lowest. Dylan, what you couldn’t do, I can. I stayed only to tell far beyond what you’ve said.”

With that, he hung up, turned around, and walked out.
Another year passed, and it was another heavy snowfall.
A thick white blanket covered Havenport, dressing the entire city in shimmering silver.
Julia, in a wedding gown, stepped onto the stage, walking over a carpet of fresh flowers. The officiant recited the vows that had been spoken countless times before, witnessing the union of another couple.
“Ms. Julia Thalman, do you take Mr. Wilson to be your husband, whether in poverty or wealth, sickness or health, youth or old age? Will you love and honor him, support each other, and spend the rest of your lives together?”
“I do.”
“Mr. Miles Wilson, do you take Ms. Thalman to be your wife, whether in poverty or wealth, sickness or health, youth or old age? Will you love and honor her,

support each other, and spend the rest of your lives together?”
Miles turned to look at the woman beside him. The love in his eyes had never once faded.
He smiled and answered firmly, “I do.”
This grand wedding, which was live–streamed, was broadcast to every corner of Havenport, including the prison where Dylan was being held. The next day, Dylan was found to have taken his own life in his cell.
