Chapter 8
With just a few sentences, Cheryl managed to get the chaotic banquet hall to fall into dead silence once more.
She couldn’t care less about their reaction to the news, however. Instead, she helped her parents off the stage and left the hotel together.
The car ride hoine was absolutely quiet. Even the sound of their breathing was loud and clear.
Just as they were about to drop Cheryl off, Francis and Meredith sighed heavily before turning to look at her with a sorry and concerned look in their eyes.
“Cheryl, did you choose to marry into the Sterling family instead of the others because you knew that the three guys were in love with Giselle?”
“Yes,” Cheryl answered. “You can’t force them into something they don’t want. I know that Dylan and I aren’t close, but he’s very focused on expanding his family
business. I also know that he won’t cheat on me.
“We may not be the loving couple people hope we’ll be, but I believe that we will still treat each other with mutual respect. And that’s already more than enough forme.”
Francis and Meredith were taken aback at how confident Cheryl sounded.
“Do you believe in Dylan that much?”
Cheryl nodded lightly. Then, she softened her voice and said, “Yes, I do, because I’ve already looked into his background.”
However, she hid the true reason from her parents, instead burying it deep inside her heart.
In her previous life, Dylan never married or got into a scandal with anyone either. He had also been known as a cold–blooded person in the business world.
That was the reason why Cheryl believed that she didn’t make the wrong decision.
After the catastrophic birthday banquet was finally over, Cheryl went back home and started packing her things with much focus.
The wedding was going to be held in Northdale. The Sterlings would be sending a number of private jets to pick Cheryl up a day before the wedding.
After she was done packing up her suitcase and wedding accessories, Cheryl thought of setting off to the airport. However, she received a text message on her phone.
It was from Leon, who had sent her an address. He was asking her to go there now so he could have a chat with her.
Cheryl checked the time. She would only be departing in about five hours, so she agreed to meet Leon.
She arrived at a private room the trio had booked. Their gazes, dark and grim, landed on her the moment she pushed the door open.
Leon, Zane, and Steve said nothing. So, Cheryl also remained silent.
Ten minutes later, Leon sipped on his wine before finally speaking up.
“About the birthday banquet yesterday… We’re sorry for crashing it. We’re sorry for letting you down, but you have to understand that someone’s life was at stake. We couldn’t possibly watch Gigi take her life without doing anything about it. That’s why we had to leave you there.”
“This isn’t the first time you’ve let me down, and I don’t need your apology. You don’t have to feel sorry for anything, either.”
Cheryl’s cool attitude was making the trio uneasy. Zane and Steve started talking a little too quickly.
“What’s happened has already happened. There’s nothing you can do, even if you get angry and talk to us like that. Our families are furious now, but Gigi has always been innocent all along. She doesn’t deserve to be dragged into all this.
“Our family members have always liked you. You just need to put in a good word for her, and they won’t be mad at us anymore.”
“Just go and talk to our families and tell them not to make things hard for Gigi or blame her for anything. We promise that we’ll treat you well no matter who you choose to marry among us. We’ll even love you for the rest of your life. Okay?”
So, the only reason why Leon, Zane, and Steve were looking for her was also for Giselle’s sake.
Cheryl felt exhausted, “There’s no need for that. After you left, I’d already announced that-”
Before she could finish, Leon interrupted her at once.
“What did you announce? Who did
you pick?”
Cheryl’s gaze flitted between the three young men. In the end, she decided not to tell them directly.
Instead, she said, “I’ve already sent out the parcels containing the marriage tokens that your families gave me back then. You’ll receive the parcels tomorrow.”
The trio thought that Cheryl meant she had chosen one of the tokens and sent the other two back. They were just about to press her for more information when they suddenly received an urgent call from the hospital.
“Mr. Kingsley, Mr. Thomson, and Mr. Laurent! Ms. Brussel has already woken up, but she’s making a huge fuss about wanting to go to the rooftop again!”
Hearing this, the trio’s faces turned grim once more. They grabbed their coats and left.
Cheryl watched them leave before calling out to them for the first and final time ever.
“Before we part, can you guys just congratulate me on my wedding? Together?”
They didn’t know why, but a strange unease settled in their stomachs as soon as they heard Cheryl say that.
They wanted to ask her to explain herself. They wanted to know why Cheryl asked them to wish her that.
However, just before they asked, they exchanged glances with one another and blurted out, together, “Congratulations on your wedding.”

The words were barely out of their mouths when they got another call from the hospital again.
Leon, Zane, and Steve immediately rushed off without another backward glance,
Cheryl didn’t call them back or ask them to stay anymore, either. She went horne after watching their car speed off in the distance.
She deleted their numbers from her phone. Then, she took her suitcase and set off for the private jet that the Sterlings had arranged for her.
This time, Cheryl didn’t choose anyone from the three men.
Instead, she chose to give herself a new life.
