Chapter 15
When Leon, Zane, and Steve stood outside the Sterling mansion yesterday, they realized who their hearts truly desired–Cheryl. That was why they had such a hard time accepting the fact that she’d married someone else.
What they felt for Giselle was merely a sense of protectiveness as a result of the weakness she displayed. In order to get back into Cheryl’s good books, they had to get rid of Giselle.
Looking at their thoughtful expressions, Giselle felt a sense of unease bloom in her heart, which only grew as time passed. Not knowing what to do, she chose to continue exhibiting signs of weakness, hoping to inspire their pity.
“The three of you are too much. I disregarded my unstable health just to take care of you guys, and this is how you treat me after waking up?”
As Giselle sniffled, Leon, Zane, and Steve couldn’t help but think of Cheryl. She would not have tried to claim recognition for such menial tasks. Instead, she would’ve considered their perspective and taken care of everything.
However, Giselle did take care of them.
Leon said, “Thank you for your sacrifice. I’ll transfer some money to you. You can spend it on what you like.”
“I’ll find a cushy job for you as long as you go home,” added Zane.
Following up with what they said, Steve suggested, “I’ll buy you a house. Move out of our place with your father.”
Giselle was so stunned she even forgot to cry for a moment. She froze in place and asked, “Are you guys cutting me off?”
“Cheryl is still mad at us, so it would be better if you left,” Leon explained expressionlessly.
“She’s married. None of you is being forced to marry her anymore. Why are you doing this now?”
“Who said we were being forced into it?”
“You guys don’t even love her!”
“Shut up! Who are you to comment on our feelings for her?”
All three men glared at her icily. Ever since she managed to seduce them, they hadn’t looked at her with such hatred. Giselle couldn’t help but recall what it was like when she’d first met them at the Jenner mansion. They treated her coldly, just as they were doing so now.
Giselle had slaved away for years, trying to turn the three men against Cheryl so they would spoil her instead. It was as though time had been turned back. This was unacceptable.
Giselle broke down and shrieked, “Cheryl is married! Mere days ago, the three of you destroyed her birthday banquet for me and refused to marry her. Have you all forgotten about that?
“Cheryl doesn’t give a damn about any of you. If she did, she wouldn’t have allowed you guys to stand under the rain, refusing to come out even after you fainted-
The three of them roared, “Shut up!”
Giselle’s reminder frustrated them. Watching Giselle throw a tantrum until her voice went hoarse, the last bit of protectiveness they still harbored toward her disappeared.
“Did Cheryl say something to you? She’s already married, yet she still wants to drive à stake between us. What a bitch…”
Giselle let out a stream of curses at Cheryl. She seemed nothing like the vulnerable girl who wouldn’t stand up for herself. Perhaps this was her real personality.
“If you continue speaking like that, you will regret it.” Leon fixed her with a cold stare.
In a sudden burst of clarity, Giselle remembered that they were the heirs to the four richest families of Southstead. In the past, they were gentle with her because they were willing to spoil her. However, it didn’t mean that was who they were. Giselle had witnessed how they tortured their enemies to the point of insanity. Giselle stiffened, cold sweat dripping down her spine. She feigned ignorance and said, “You guys have just woken up and aren’t fully conscious yet. I won’t hold this against you. I’ll get the doctor,”
Giselle slipped out immediately. The second she left, her features contorted into a horrific sneer. Her eyes darkened maliciously.
“Cheryl, why aren’t you dead? Why haven’t you died yet?”
The medical professionals brushing past her were alarmed by her twisted expression. However, Giselle quickly schooled her features into one of normalcy and
went to fetch them food.
If she wanted to keep life as it was, she had to cling to Leon, Zane, and Steve with all her might. Giselle already had a taste of bourgeois life. How could she be content with returning to the life of a commoner? She’d once had everything in the palm of her hand.
