Chapter 18
Jeremy’s face darkened Instantly.
Tessa stole a glance in his direction and instinctively took a step backward because she was so intimidated.
“Get out,” he said furiously.
“Ye… yes!” Tessa hurried out of the office as if she was trying to run away from some beast.
Jeremy turned his gaze to the divorce agreement that he was holding. Instead of flipping through the pages, he slammed the document down onto his desk. Then, he grabbed his phone, searched for Joanna’s number, and called her.
Jeremy was so infuriated that his hand was shaking as he gripped the phone tightly. The veins stood out on the back of his hand.
Meanwhile, Joanna was enjoying a big, scrumptious breakfast along with Sydney and Elliot. The three of them were in the midst of a fun and lively conversation.
An unexpected call from Jeremy quickly soured the cheerful atmosphere.
“I’ll answer the phone for you!” Sydney snatched Joanna’s phone from her hand right away. She had stayed over at Maplewood Residences last night to keep Joanna company.
“Don’t!” Joanna stopped her. “He’s probably calling to discuss matters relating to our divorce.”
She smiled at Sydney and Elliot reassuringly. “Don’t worry. I can handle it.”
“Fine.” Sydney gave her back the phone. “You shouldn’t yield to someone like him again, or even I’m going to start to look down on you.
“I know.” Joanna took the phone from her. She got up and headed to the balcony attached to the dining room.
The balcony was spacious, and a couch was placed there. Joanna sat on the couch and answered the phone.
“Joanna Thompson, what’s the meaning of this?”
Joanna–remained exceptionally calm as she listened to the irate, questioning tone in Jeremy’s voice that came down the line. She replied flatly, “I’m trying to get our divorce. finalized as soon as possible, just as you wish, Mr. Hansen.”
Jeremy scoffed. “Are you just acting, or are you seriously dumb, Joanna? Aren’t you well aware that the thing I want the most now is for you to get an abortion and get rid of those bastards you’re carrying!”

Chapter 18
Joanna closed her eyes briefly. “You have no right to ask me to do that since you’re not related to the babies I’m carrying in any way, Mr. Hansen.
“What? Just because Didi couldn’t conceive, you think you could claim that your babies are mine and make them the Hansen family’s future successors?”
The tone of Jeremy’s voice grew increasingly scornful. His words were like knives that stabbed Joanna’s heart over and over again.
“So, that’s what he’s worried about…” she thought..
Joanna knew all too well how cruel and brutal Jeremy could be. Still, she couldn’t help it as her eyes reddened. “Jeremy, I can sign an extra agreement with you if you’re still worried about this.”
Those stinging words were like fine needles that jabbed into her heart. “My babies share no relations to you or anybody from the Hansen family. They won’t need to inherit à cent from you or the Hansen family.”
“Of course they don’t share any relations with me. You know better than anyone else that I’m not the father of the children you’re carrying now!” Jeremy said through gritted teeth.
Joanna snickered. “In that case, what are you waiting for? Just sign the divorce agreement, Mr. Hansen. We can proceed with the procedures right away.
“Joanna, you’re trying to divorce me so that you can finally be with that Becker guy, am I right? Also, you’re going to use this against me by telling others that I’ve abandoned my wife and children for Didi!”
Jeremy sounded like a senseless, unreasonable shrew. “Let me tell you this. That’s not gonna happen!”
Then, he hung up right away.
Joanna was both amused and exasperated as she listened to the dial tone coming from her phone.
They had known each other for ten years and lived together for three years. Yet, that was what Jeremy had thought of her all along.
It turned out Jeremy wasn’t the one who was totally blind to reality. Instead, it was Joanna.
For the next few days, Joanna stayed in the apartment to rest while she looked through their new clients‘ information for work. She hadn’t taken a single step outside the apartment at all.
Jeremy didn’t try to bother her again.
Chapter 18
On the other hand, Wendy expressed a lot of concern for the bables Joanna was carrying. She would call her almost every single day and suggest Joanna stay at the Hansen residence during her pregnancy.
Joanna had barely managed to convince Wendy by promising time and time again that she would take care of her body and the babies well.
To make sure that her babies were healthy, Joanna went to get another checkup at the hospital eight days after she was discharged.
The results came back pretty well, and her babies were in stable condition. Joanna wouldn’t have to be extra cautious all the time.
Still, she had to keep her guard up.
Just as she left the hospital, Joanna received another phone call from Wendy.
“Joanna, you moved out of Clementson Bay? You’re pregnant with twins now! How could you move out of that place? Also, how could the two of you keep something this big from me?”
As soon as the call got through, Joanna was greeted by Wendy’s angry and demanding voice.
