Chapter 21
Jeremy was using so much force in his grip that it felt like he was trying to crush Joanna’s
bones.
Joanna tried to endure the pain. She turned her head and met Jeremy’s cold, piercing gaze.
“Joanna, don’t speak as if I owe you something” Jeremy narrowed his eyes. He had the urge to open up Joanna’s chest and take a look at her heart if that were possible. His voice Tang with rage and carried a tinge of resentment.
He
le remembered vividly how Anthea had asked the 16–year–old Joanna whether she liked Joseph or him more. Back then, Joanna blurted out without even needing to think. “It’s Joseph, of course!!
Joanna would celebrate Joseph’s birthday every year without fail. She would pick out the best birthday gift for Joseph and secretly prepare his favorite dish for him.
Yet, she never cared to remember Jeremy’s birthday.
After Jeremy was forced to marry Joanna, she finally showed him some attention. The gifts from her would mostly be to his liking.

When Joseph died in the accident, Joanna was so devastated that she bawled her eyes and almost fainted.
The person she really liked was Joseph. Yet, Joanna acted as though she liked Jeremy now and that he was the one who had let her down all along.
Joanna looked at Jeremy. She smiled faintly and replied, “No, you don’t owe me anything. Once we’re divorced, you and I will no longer be involved in any way.”
Then, Joanna yanked her hand free and walked away.
Wendy watched as Joanna exited through the front door. With a surprised look on her face, she asked, “What did you say, Jeremy? You’ve said that the twins Joanna is carrying aren’t yours? Are you sure?”
Jeremy suppressed the anger that was burning in him. He asked instead, “How are you so certain that she’s carrying my
babies?”
Wendy pursed her lips. “You and Joanna are a couple. You know better than anyone whether she’s carrying your babies or not.”
Exactly! Joanna was his wife. Naturally, he would know better than anyone else whether she was carrying his babies.
However, for the longest time, Jeremy had made sure there was no chance she would get pregnant

He was feeling more and more frustrated. “She and I have been using contraception. Under normal circumstances, there’s no way for her to get pregnant,” he said frigidly.
Wendy sighed in relief upon hearing that. She asked, “Have you decided to divorce Joanna because you think that she’s pregnant with someone else’s babies?”
If Jeremy had only insisted that there was no way Joanna was pregnant with his babies because they had taken contraceptive measures, then Wendy could confirm that the babies Joanna was carrying were surely Jeremy’s.
After all, it was her doing that the contraceptive failed. No one knew better than her.
Upon hearing those words, Jeremy frowned and stared at Wendy silently.
“If that’s the case, you can easily resolve it,” Wendy said.
She maintained a calm, natural expression and continued, “When Joanna goes for her prenatal checkups, they’ll take her blood samples to run various tests and analyses.
“If you still have doubts, we can do a DNA paternity test with her blood samples. If the babies aren’t yours and you still insist on divorcing Joanna by then, your dad and I won’t try to stop you.”
Jeremy kept his gaze on Wendy as he chuckled quietly. His expression was unreadable. Without saying anything else, he turned and walked away.
He had no idea why he rushed home after learning that Wendy had summoned Joanna to the Clementson Bay Villa.
“Did I come just so I can see her?” Jeremy pondered.
He felt strangely annoyed and frustrated when he couldn’t see Joanna for the past few days. Yet, it seemed like it only felt worse after he had seen her.
