Chapter 35
Before Joy could speak, Helen Jumped up and began shouting, pointing her finger accusingly at Joantia.
“You heartless woman! To frame Ms. Slinger, you abducted my daughter and forced her to slander Ms. Slinger. Claiming she paid to buy Jay’s uterus–ha! How could you even come up with such a ridiculous He? It’s laughable!”
As she spoke, Helen threw the five thousand dollars Joanna had given Joy onto the table.
“And look at this–this is the five thousand dollars she bribed my daughter with. It’s all here! We don’t want this dirty money. What if we get struck by lightning and die early?”
Jeremy, who had been silent with a cold expression, glanced at the stack of cash. His face. darkened further as his icy gaze turned toward Joanna.
“Joanna, did you give her this money?” he asked, his voice filled with chilling suspicion.
“It was her!” Nathan interjected. “When I picked up my girlfriend from Maplewood Residences, she already had this money in her hands.”
Joanna ignored everyone else in the room, her calm gaze fixed solely on Jeremy.
If Joy had suddenly decided to side with her family and boyfriend, falsely accusing her, it was either because Nadine had threatened her or offered her a deal.
But none of that mattered to Joanna anymore.
Nadine clearly orchestrated this entire spectacle, hoping to paint Joanna as the villain. while portraying herself as innocent in front of Jeremy.
How ironic.
For five years, Joanna had carried the blame for countless things she hadn’t done. She had long since given up on Jeremy, completely and utterly disappointed with him.

She admitted, her p
“Yes, I did,” steady as she met Jeremy’s stormy eyes, her voice unwavering.
“Ms. Thompson,” Joy spoke up, her voice filled with righteous indignation. “Ms. Slinger is a kind–hearted person. She saved my mother’s life. I offered to donate my uterus to her out of gratitude. She never forced me to do anything. Please stop slandering her!”
Joy continued, “And I don’t want the money you gave me. My family doesn’t need it. Take
it back. I won’t help you slander Ms. Slinger anymore.”

“Joanna, I admit I was wrong to act as I did. Thankfully, you took Joy away in time and stopped me from making a terrible mistake,” Nadine said, looking at Joanna with a composed and gracious demeanor. “Thank you, Joanna.”
Listening to their seemingly heartfelt words, Joanna let out a faint, inscrutable laugh. Rising to her feet, she swept her gaze over the group and raised an eyebrow. “Is that all?”
The room fell silent, no one responding.
“Dominic, take the money,” Joanna instructed her driver.
Dominic nodded and promptly collected the stack of bills.
“Well, it seems there’s nothing more to discuss. I’ll be leaving now.” With that, Joanna turned to leave.
“Joanna Thompson!”
She had barely taken a step when a familiar voice, thick with anger and hostility, rang out behind her. She stopped in her tracks.
“So it really was you who abducted this woman and coerced her into slandering Nadine?” Jeremy stood, towering over Joanna with his imposing height, his sharp gaze boring into her.
Nadine glanced at him, a flicker of panic crossing her eyes. Jeremy’s reaction showed he still had doubts about her story.
“Jeremy,” Nadine began, trying to interject. “I”
Before Nadine could finish, Joanna let out a soft chuckle. She turned her head slightly, raising an eyebrow as she replied, not answering his question directly, “What if I did? And what if I didn’t?”
